Default Someone weary about getting a stall...me

I have this unreasonable fear about losing driveability if I get a stall, the problem is that I am now realizing that doing a cam on this car without a stall is pretty worthless since you lose a lot of low end power.

With that said I was wondering what you all thought about doing a 3K stall with a 224/228 .581/.588 114lsa?

As you can see in my sig I already have a set of heads that are ported polished and coated.

The heads flow:

.5---289.1
.55--301.8
.6---299.2
.65--298.9

1) Is 400rwhp realistic with this setup?
2) How much driveability will be sacrificed going with a 3K stall?
3) How does a 3K stall effect going WOT at 90MPH? I do a lot of WOT runs against european cars on the autobahn.
4) What is the life expectancy of a 3K stall with the cam mentioned?

I really appreciate the help.

1) I would think so, but remember a stalled car usually dyno's lower.
2) The term 'driveability' is very subjective. After installing a 3k stall, you'll ask yourself why you waited so long to do so (personally I'd go 3500 stall w/your cam but 3000 will work)
3) Can't answer this one, usually by the time I hit 90mph I've already been at WOT for a lil bit . My thought is it should be a big improvement over stock.
4) As long as you get a good sized tranny cooler to keep the temps down, life expectancy won't be far off from stock.

What he said.

Let me just say for the record that I had the same fears as you do. I was so afraid of not being able to get used to a "loose" converter that I almost bought a 2800 stall (whew, dodged a major bullet there). Someone wanted to sell a new TCI 3500 (they bought it and then changed thier minds) so I picked it up at a very good price.

Wow! I am soooo glad I didn't get a baby converter. In fact, I am so used to (and loving) the 3500 stall that I am wishing I had gone a little bigger. I strongly suggest getting a 3500-3800 stall and never looking back.

The durability of the converter should be fine, its your tranny that you should start to worry about with those high speed runs...

Your proposed combo should feel great on the street, although a 3000 would be considered small by most with a cam of that size.

Most people that go that "small" regret it and say that they wish that they had gone bigger. Do it right the first time. I would recommend a 3600 at least. I daily drive my 4000

I am thinking that a 3200 will be good, don't the fuddles come with a lockup feature?

No matter what brand of converter you choose for your 4l60e, it will have lockup capability. Fuddle makes an awesome converter for an awesome price, and I believe he'll restall it to 3600 for free WHEN you decide that 3200 wasn't quite big enough.

I would not get anything less than 3500.

SSF 3500 here and took some getting used the first day. after that it drove and still feels normal. performance wise i can't comment because i have yet to test her against someone.
one thing is for sure; tapping the gas pedal will break my es100's loose (i have 3.23's) so dr's are probably going on next.

just get at least a 3500, my car is a dd and i think it is very streetable.

General rule:

Decide on the CAM you want...and go one smaller.
Decide on the STALL you want... and go one bigger.

I personally had the TCI3500 and loved it. Stepped up to 4500 and lost my mind.

3500 gets my vote for streetability

My 4k stall is easily streetable. I used to daily drive on it, but I have another car for that now. Performance wise it's not helping me since I don't have a matching cam and gears, so make sure you pick your combination right before you buy stuff
