My factory 3.23's are the same way, hurts nothing.

I have heard that the GM gears are quieter, but I have no experience with different aftermarket gears

Mine do the same thing. I also have motive gears, but its not the gears to blame but the set-up. I hear some guys say theirs are silent, but ive had several set-up on my 97 and my 00 and they all have made some noise. Even the gears I bought from my Chevy dealer.I am very happy with the track gains though!

now i've noticed that they are beginning to make alittle noise. this happens exactly at 50-60 mph and it makes a humming sound like that made by offroad tires. (i hope that's a good description) there is no noise below or above the indicated speeds and also when i go into reverse and back up, the sound is similar to that import geary sound when they back up. know what i mean? i think i may have compromised sound for price. the gear brand is 'motive'. other than that, i do not experience grinding or any other type of unusual noises. i am otherwise happy with them and i do like the little bit of grunt gained from them. any input is appreciated.

Not unusual at all with these cars. Even my stock 3.42s in my SS make a little noise.

Nothing wrong with Motive gears. They make gears for GM too ya know.

It'll get a bit worse as you thrash on it and then should level out.

You don't know whine until you put Richmond Gears in your rear end:D. Mine WHINE!!!! Man do they whine. We we are experiencing is the result of the smaller pinion spinning through the rear end fluid. I have the added problem that the cut on Richmonds is such that they have a VERY small backlash (very tight so they make a lot of noise). Just be happy that you didn't get a bad setup and enjoy the added performance (I know I do <img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" /> )
