A few Q's about going from M6 to auto??
 

Well I think it's time to go auto for a few years. So I'm thinking of something easy. Like a th350 or th400 or 700R4. I want to change as least as possible.
Like, leave my M6 radiator in. So no tranny lines to rad.
Leave the peddles in because I'm already used to it. And disconnect the master.
Maybe strap the clutch peddle to the floor or just leave it.

I know I want a 4sp if possible. A trans brake. A MVB. And a big stall.
And I want to do it as easy as possible. And switch back after a few years.

Can I just mount a big trans cooler and not have to switch radiators?

I don't want to change computers or anything like that either.

I would not mind manually shifting it all the time either. It's a weekend warrior car.

Please give me some input on the hot setup.

If you want a 4 speed the TH350/400 is out, they are A3. Honestly if it is only a weekend warrior I do not see a problem using an A3. If it were a DD I would get an A4 w/ lockup converter.

You should be fine running the M6 radiator as long as you get a good cooler.

Don't put a 700r4 in, they're no stronger than a 4l60e. If you have to have a 4 speed, maybe a 200r4 like the old turbo GN's came with? I think you can build those to be pretty stout. What's your budget like? Stick a th400 in there with a gear vendors overdrive. :D

Yikes! You could get on badass 4l60e for that!!

If you've got the cash a built 4L80E should take everything you could throw at it. 200R4's can be built very stout but they get expensive quickly as well.

Yeah, I could almost live with a 3speed for that price.
Or like James said, 4l80e or 200r4.

So a 200r4 is a 4speed?

And that's what the GN's use? Are they computer controlled?

What could I exspect to pay for a built 200r4?

It's not an electronic tranny, just 12 volts for lockup. Price depends on how much power you need it to hold. You can get a built 200r4 to hold 400hp/tq with converter for ~$1500. As power capability goes up, so does price---600hp/tq capable with converter can run you well into $4000.

You can buy a used gear vendor with electronics completely rebuilt for 1500.

1500.00 is not bad. I would pay that for sure.

Are they reliable on a street/strip car?

The GV works with electronic switch. It is actually stronger than your tranny. Also due to the more frequent shifting, you stay in your power band easier and you will improve your ET's. Type in gear vendor and look at thier web site. They can explaine it better. I will try and locate that shops address so you can check them out too.
