I figure sombody has to do it. Although I dont understand why you need a stall and a trans brake, if someone could explain that it would be great.

First off, i dont think that is all that cheap. I bought a performance rebuilt th350 from a transmission shop in DFW for like $400 and put it behind a big stall and really stout 383 in my chev. pickup and abused the hell out of it. Never a single problem and up until i sold it. Next, the stall......what does it mean? what does it do? Ok, it allows your engine to spin up to operating rpm range. Think of it this way, as a clutch. Will you have a faster takeoff by launching at 1500rpm or 3500rpm.,? A higher stall allows the higher rpm launch. That is what a stall does. There are other things to consider also...such as STR (stall torque ratio) which determines how hard the converter engages (basically equivalent to how hard you let out on the clutch) and also stall speed as well as shift extensions. The transbrake compounds the stall. In TH350 and 400's the 1st gear and reverse are geared exactly the same. A transbrake uses this function by engaging both at the same time to work against each other and holding the transmission still and allowing the stall to go higher and give neck snapping launches. It is basically like a neutral drop except there is already a preload there and it is not even close to as hard on part. Ok, that is all i know to tell you for now. The search button is an incredible tool try it.

The price looks very good however how good is the unit itself? I does appear by the picture that it has a pro tree break which is a very good break. I personally can't believe that he lets them go with a stall for that kinda money. I would want to know if it has a sprag type intermediate set up or stock one? If you are going with a transbreak I personally wouldn't do it without 1! Good luck to you,Vince.

That doesn't really seem backwards to me. Hell, I almost did the same thing after going through 3 4L60e's. If one thing goes bad on this one, I'm changing over (maybe to the TH400 though). One of our cars already has the TH350 as well as everyone I know who used to have a 4L60e, and they're daily driven cars. It's a more reliable transmission IMO, as long as it's built with the right parts, especially a hardened intermediate sprag, because if not, you'll have to replace it before long. And you can always put different rear end gears to make up for the rpm's. Both of our cars have 4.10's, we just tend to drive a little slower in the TH350 car. lol

I checked those out before when I thought about going to a TH350. They have really good feedback from their customers. If you are set on going with them I would go with the one rated for 700hp though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-TH...mZ180039911523

well, i guess i will be the one to chime in with redneck first hand. i ordered a reverse manual valve body with a t-brake and a 5000 converter. and it was installed a couple of weeks ago

first off, just let me say that there is some people at the track i race at that use redneck converters and have had great luck with them. but of course i didnt.

i had a shop install the t=brake(very involved) and when i put it back together i have converter issues, i ordered a 5000 converter and it will stall to 6200 on the t-brake. my revlimiter is set at 7000. needless to say i didnt make it all the way down the track. so the shop went back through the WHOLE trans, everything is new and we are pretty sure that the trans is perfect, but still stalls to 6200 on the brake. after you launch it once or twice it starts to boil the trans fluid and it shoots out the vent tube on the trans. and all over the track.

i will say that i have talked to redneck a few times and they have been very helpful, and cooperative. we had a misunderstanding on my hp level. i told him wheel hp and he thought it was flywheel. he said they have a 90 day garuntee on all their products.

if i had to do it all over again i would proballly just order a complete trans setup from them like you are looking at. like i said there is three people i know with these converters and they work great. everyone makes mistakes. as long as they willl back it up im cool with it.

btw if you do end up ordering a trans or converter from them they can put the ls1 extension on the converter so you dont have to use a spacer, at no charge.

sorrry post is so long.

Well the trans a stall are in. The trans arrived on a pallet with not the best packaging, but the converter was packaged well inside a box that was screwed to the pallet. The trans itself looks a little crusty from age and comes painted in a camoflauge pattern. It came with a chrome trans pan that looks like it might be a little deeper than stock. It didnt come with any sort of speedometer sensor or gear, just a plastic plug. It was also shipped mostly full of fluid, except for the converter. After installing everything I found out that you have to have the transbrake hooked up to have reverse. Im not sure if all transbrakes are like that or just this unit. When shifting from park to 1st it hits pretty hard. Also from 1st to second, but doesnt chirp the tires. From 2nd to 3rd is a little softer than the previous shifts.
The transbrake works good and stalls to about 3-3500. On the footbrake it stalls to about 3k. I havent used the transbrake to launch yet because Im scared of breaking the rearend. The stock m6 driveshaft is a little bit shorter than I would like, but it does work, however it does drip some fluid from the yoke.
All in all I think its a good transmission. The guy who runs the shop said it was good to about 500hp. He also said for $200 more he would install a 34 (36) element sprag. I have no idea what that means though. Just thought I would post this up incase anybody else is thinking about using them.
