***Best Atermarket Transmission***
My transmission has been slipping, and finally went out lat week. I am faced with the decision of whether to get a transmission from the dealership intalled for $1800 with a 3 year 30,000 mile warranty, or buy an aftermarket transmission. What are your opinions. Should I go with a new one or an aftermarket that costs a little more. I have found a few on the internet that look good, but only have a one year warranty. Are these transmissions worth the money?

I am personally going with the FLT 4L60E when my tranny goes out. They look like they have a good product, and I've heard nothing but good things about their product. They're also a sponsor on here, and have 4L80E's and T56's as well.

RPM....hands down....checkout corvetteforum.com, C5 FI section....everyone uses them. Daily drivers that run low 9's use Rodney's RPM tranny. I use it, after breaking my $3771 Rossler tranny.

This is just my .02, Id go with a stocker with the warranty. Ive been through 3 4l60e's and even though they can be built to handle some serious power, They want last long. The 4l60e is junk. Either way your going to be replacing it again you can count on it. Just my opinion even though some may disagree..

If you're working with a GM dealer to get a SERTA, should be a 3 or 4 year, 50k mile warranty. If you're near stock power and don't have tools/space to work on it - I'd do that, personally.
If you're running a stouter motor, consider some of the other recommendations on here that are sponsors - very good reputations.

One more vote for RPM two of my friends have them in c5's with 408's with 150 to 200 shots on them and they r holding up very well. I havent really had a lot of luck with FLT

Also I believe performabuilt has been around for over 30 years. just under a different name or they operate under a parent Co.

Are going to add additional mods that really up the HP and RPM such as a cam? Basically a lid and catback car doesn't need a heavy duty transmission. $1800 installed with a 3 year warranty (that doesn't require shipping a broken tranny to the rebuilder) for a near stock car is worth serious consideration.

No core to mess with is a bonus.
I was just referring to the value of a warranty where the place that does the install also does the warranty. If something does go wrong, the broken tranny doesn't need to be shipped and there is (most likely) no labor charges for the R&R portion.
I wouldn't think this was a good option on a heads cam car, but for a bolt-on (assuming a 3000ish stall) a 3 yr warranty is hard to pass up. Just make sure you can trust the stealership. I'd hate to see them deny the warranty because of headers or some other mod.
