Default Shifts head popping hard after driving a while.

I got a 1999 V6 Firebird (stock) with 100k miles. On the way to work (34 total miles at 55 to 60mph with maybe 10 complete stop and go's) 25 of them the car shifts smooth under full or partial throttle. After that, at any throttle the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts can kick my head back like it has a shift kit. The fluid looks fine and at right level. I do not think it is a tranny mount. (past experience in my 96 Z with a broke mount) The tranny doesn't slip. It only shifts hard after 30 minutes or more.

I also have a 02 Hawk that has no tranny issues what so ever. (39k miles)(half of miles with 2800 stall)

Is the tranny going bad I wonder? Acts like a race tranny and then possibly die...

I have only had the car for a week.

I actually popped a SES light today and went to Autozone and it red the infamous (p0300) but it did specify on cylinder 3. That was the only code they saw. I can wait a day or so and check it again.

wait too long and you'll need a complete rebuild instead of just spending a few bucks to get it fixed, a miss in the engine wont dictate the way the tranny shifts

I know the miss has nothing to do with the tranny. I will go by there tomorrow and see if they see any 1870 codes. I did a search here on that code and it looks like there could be a lot of different possibilities that can cause this. That can cost money if the person I take it to doesn't know what they are doing. If the tranny is going bad I will buy a new one and get a warranty. The car does have a 100k miles on it. I would want it fixed right the 1st time and not have to worry about it.

I feel ya there, if ya need some more info on what it probably is look here
http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=12520
it explains the symptoms of the p1870 code which according to your first post(hard shifts not happening till after it warms up) is exactly what it sounds like your having,IIRC its like a 400-500 dollar fix,but if left neglected too long will result in a an ENTIRE rebuild of the trans do to A MAJOR OVERHEATING!!Any GOOD tranny shop should know about this problem and have the proper solution as it is a common problem with 4l60E's as they use a PWM(pulse width modulation) pump where the lockup is not only "off" or "on" it can be 10% on,30% on which will eventually wear out the bore for the TCC regulator valves.Whew that was alot.

Well, I got to work this morning and it didn't do the hard shift. I will look at your link and go from there. I will also call a couple of people here in Houston that I trust. Thanks..... I am also going to see if that code has shown up on the pcm.

Also, reading on the posts here my car shifts into OD at 45mph. Even putting around it will not do it sooner like my Hawk.
