What's this part?

What is it, and can I get rid of it. I hope so, cause I just did. Any help would be great. Connects to the shifter, and has a plug with two wires going to it. Seems incredibly simple and I can't imaging it doing much other that noting shifter location, but it was in teh way and I took it out in anger.

That unlocks the shifter when you put your foot on the brake. Or it locks it when you turn the key off I forgot but you can do without it.

You can do without it but remember if you have kids they will be able to take the car out of park even with the key removed

So that's what locks it when the key is removed? It still locks until you press the brake, but I didn't try it with the car off. Thanks for the fast help guys I was worried I needed it. I made a switch plate for my ashtray and it was in the way of all the wires.

I think so.
