Default Proper way to check fluid

ok dumb question just help me with my little brain fart here..

I installed a tranny cooler for my 60e yesterday..

what is the PROPER way to check fluid

#1) vehicle idling for few minutes and in park (dip stick shows fluid about 1/2" passed crosshatch)

#2) vehicle driven around for 10 minutes then put in park (dip stick shows fluid about 1/2" before crosshatch)

the vehicle shifts fine.. should I not worry about it?
