Default Heard a Ping and Metal grinding, what could it be?

The first time I let my friend drive my car, he kills the tranny. Here's what happened, he shifted from D to OD at about 90 to 100 mph with a damaged shift cable. When I went to drive the car home, about 13-15 miles later I hear a ping and metal grinding. At first I though the shift cable had finally broken and was scraping on the ground, but that wasn't it (the shift cable broke later). All gears worked, but I would get a loud metal grinding sound, especially in R, and sometimes in D. What could this be? Hopefully it's the converter. I recently had the tranny rebuilt about 19000 miles ago.

sounds like converter to me... but the best thing to do is start taking it apart. the more you drive it the more of a chance you have of ******* more stuff up.

Hopefully it's the converter. I would hate to have to pay for another tranny.
