Hydramatic is GMs Automatic transmission division TH350=TURBO HYDRAMATIC 350,
H400= HYDRAMATIC 400 ,TH700R4 = TURBO HYDRAMATIC 700R4 etc.
Its not important dosent mean anything really.
Im not sure what year you have but unless its been changed and its auto car from 94-present its a 4l60e or 4l65e

Well there is a little green plate and it says Hydra-matic on it with a serial number on it. Its a 1997 Trans Am, looks clean under there and there is a "H" sign on the side with little marks on the sides. Don't know the previous owner looked like he knew what he was doing. id have to look over the old recipes to make sure what other things it has done with it.

a TH400 is a 3 speed auto and a 4l60e is a 4-speed auto(has overdrive) you should easily be able to tell which one you have.....as said above hydramatic was GM's automatic transmission division...i don't believe they currently are called that but i could be wrong there

GM Powertrain is now a single entity (engines and transmissions combined). Hydramatic as a brand name for automatic transmissions (rather than the division name) is still in use, but has been de-emphasized for quite some time now.
