Default 98 Sentra transmission?

Hey guys this is not F-body related question, but didnt want to join a import forum, the question is that my gf has a 98 Nissan Sentra and the transmission has been acting up for a couple of months and finally the reverse went out, I was wondering if changing the transmission fluid would help the problem, since the fluid is really dark?

unfortunatley no. changing the fluid may make it worse at this point. When the fluid is dark or black usually means that its that time. however it wouldnt hurt to try it I guess maybe the filter is clogged and it may buy some time untill you can get a new one. but a rebuild will be in the future plans even if reverse does come back

I'm not really sure what changing the fluid is going to do if you have no reverse. She either needs a new trans or new ride.

thanks guys, but i'm not looking forward to spend more money on a transmission than whats the car worth. I'll see if i can buy a good used transmission fairly cheap, if yall know of a place besides a junkyard let me know.
