SS3600...I'm that guy. Just had a SS3600 installed.First impression.....I wish I had gone smaller. So far I really don't like the street manners of this converter.I guess my idea of a dailly driver differs from other folks.Anything less than half throttle with this converter and I hardly feel like I'm moving. 2200-2500rpm just to hit 20mph. :mad: Don't get me wrong,stab it and hang on. :drive: But after reading all the post and polls,I wish I had been able to ride in a car to see for myself how it reacted.I think I would of been happy w/a 3000-3200. Next step is to try going from 3.23 gears to 3.73 to see if that helps my sluggish part throttle acceleration.I read,everyone says"you will get used to it".....I dunno. Brian |
i wasnt. thrilled when i first put my stall in, it was a pig to drive. im hoping that the fuddle im going to buy is better. |
Sounds like you need to change your TCC settings in your tune. I use LT1Edit, so I can't tell you how. But my Fuddle was very loose until these parameters were changed. Now it is fine. Certainly easier than changing converters. |
Check back in 30 days and lets us know if you feel the same way. Tuning does make a difference, but you shouldn't need it. I bet you will want a 4000 stll. LOL. |
im looking into getting a 3600...my car isnt going to be driven everyday, so im not too worried...but ive heard that they are great for racing or just getting on it...keep us updated on how it turns out |
I went conservative with a 3000 stall when I got mine and I was glad I did. It's been perfect for a DD. People said it would feel like stock, but the difference was night and day. Now, after 2 1/2 years, I am getting the itch to go bigger. An SS3600 sounds good to me. |
i just put in a performabuilt 3000 stall, and i would not go any bigger for a DD. it is the perfect size, revs up to 1.5-2k from a dead stop when normal driving. i love it! |
It'll grow on you. Give it a month or two. I just went from a 3500 super yank (which I had in for 75,000 miles) back to stock, and all things being equal, would rather daily drive with the yank. |
I just went from a 3000 (for sale & street cam if anyone wants it) to a 4000. I wouldnt recommend going higher than 3200 for street / stop go traffic. My cars just a weekend warrior so 4000's fine for me. |
Not sure what is taking so much gas for your guys' setup to start moving. I have the YANK SS3600 and the slightest touch of gas it will start going. It's not bad at all around town. I DD my car for the whole summer with that in without a problem. I actually wish I went bigger. 3.73 gears out back. |
Well the drive to work this morning wasn't fun. It sounds like I'm trying to race everyone as I pull away from a light. :drive: I had it tuned for the new converter but does not seem to consistantly lock up when supposed to. Gonna have to have the shop take a closer look at that. I will give it some time...have no choice.Looking into gears though. Thanks for the comments. Brian |

If lockup is "inconsistent" you may have a low level misfire (false detect) problem from the lightweight converter and any lumpity-lump cam action etc. With any higher-stall converter there will be some period of acclimation. It took me about a week to get used to the TCI 3000. I spec'd my present 3500 to try and get a similar low-RPM coupling and pretty much succeeded, my build is different than the Yank (lower STR). You might find your driving style change as you get used to the converter, you don't have to bury your foot getting nothing, like with the stocker. Get a sense of how the RPM slides and how torque out the back follows pedal. Stock shiftpoints kind of suck and you can benefit from managing the gear so it follows pedal more sensibly. |
Make sure the fluid level is correct. I have a SS4000 and is not sloppy at all. |
Remember you went from stock to 3600. Expect a difference. |
I have an SS3600 .. not sloppy at all, not much difference between it and the 3200 (except at the track). No additional pedal needed for the car to move ..hell, it'll idle @ 15mph! Definately something wrong w/ the OP's set-up (tune/fluid level/??). |
it took me some time to get use to my 3400 stall, mine felt a lil slugish at 1st too a few months back i drove a buddies of mines car w/ a 3600 and 3.73's ( mines still the stock 3.23's for now ) and his felt alot better. the gears will help along w/ some time to get use to it. when mine was stock in city driving i hardly ever got the car over @ 22 - 2300 rpms now to move really im ther and over. but like i said im so use to it now stock stalled a4 cars seem weird and slow. also check the tune. * jimmyblue how do you correct the missfire problem you explained??? my car does the same thing from time to time!?! i have a stock cam though ??? |
