Yank's 21 blade stator I hear that Yank has a 21-blade stator that is a Yank exclusive, how can that be if the stator is found in a 258mm converter. The converter was introduced in 1997 for the Grand Pix, the converter has two stator configurations. Any converter company can get it. |

Re: Yank's 21 blade stator Sorry to break it to you, Yank uses the same stator in the 4400 non-lock-up I had one until it went boom. I took it to a local converter company and had it cut open the converter was trashed, they explained to me why the converter went BOOM! That’s when I learned about the stator and when it was really introduce 1997 Some companies need to keep a sales pitch. Re: Yank's 21 blade stator The BMW uses the 245mm and the 258mm converter, you are missing the point, the 258mm 21 blade stator was first introduced in 1997 Grand Pix, the new 258mm converter uses the same stator but has a dual lock-up piston. This is to let ever one know when the stator was born And is not exclusive to Yank only. Here’s why ever one does not use the 258mm stator,in order to make the stator fit into the 245mm converter you must first machine inter and outer edges of the stator then you machine the turbine inter lip down, the stator is much thicker in the body that means you must machine the turbine hub down to allow the stator to fit in place. The process is time consuming and yes there is another converter company that uses the 258mm stator. The 21 blade stator used in the SS converters is a clean sheet design from General Motors that will be used for the upcoming 2004 rear drive Cadillacs. It was born as a 245mm stator and is not a cut down 21 blade unit from a larger 258mm converter. Although the new stator is a genuine GM development, it has been nearly impossible for other converter companies to get. Yank does a lot of projects with GM motorsports, particularly their Hydramatic division in desert racing. They often get new GM development pieces quite some time earlier than the general public. This is the case with the new 245mm 21 blade stator used in the SS converters. It is not the same configuration as a 21 blade stator from a 258mm Grand Prix GTP, not even close. Re: Yank's 21 blade stator Patrick G if you go to yank’s web site and look close at the turbine and stator you can see that the turbine has been machine to fit the stator, blow up the photo. Also the stators are marked. Yank likes to use this stator because of it large roller cam design. I will be posting pics of all the stator and number markings. Re: Yank's 21 blade stator Fire Bottle, You are flat wrong. You do not know what you are talking about. A 21 blade 258mm stator has snap rings on both side. The 21 blade 245mm stator used in the Yank SS converters has the snap ring on one side. It's on the side facing the turbine. Can't see one in the picture can you? You can't because it's not a 258mm stator. The blade shapes are completely different. If you have friends who want 258mm 21 blade stators, Yank has a bunch they'd be willing to sell since they don't use them for much. I spoke with Mike at Yank. The 245mm 21 blade stators are not in production yet. Yank uses GM's prototype stators and if you can get your hands on one, they will pay you $500. |

They differ from the Super Thruster 3500/3800 in that they have a more agressive stator, which gives them snappier throttle response, a harder hit to the tires, deeper torque multiplication, and less shift extension (making it better for running a power adder). They will hit the tires hard like a Vigilante 3200-3600 and share its good street manners, but it will exceed it by having longer torque multiplication and higher converter efficiency. The stator is an all-new design that will be used in 2004 rear drive Cadillacs. It has 25 blades vs. the 18 blades used in the popular converters by the competition. GM spent countless hours developing the new stator and they are in very limited supply. The cost of the converters will be the same as the Super Thrusters: $895. This includes a larger 258mm clutch (vs 245mm of the competition and the old ST line) with beefier construction and a reconfigured clutch lining.Call Mike at Yank for more details: 479-632-6355.Patrick |

Early intelligence stated that the new GM stator was 25 blades when it in fact was 21 blades...still a big change for what is available for 245mm converters (without modification). As you can see from the ENLARGED photos in this thread, the stator does indeed have 21 blade (feel free to count them), just like the Yank website states. |
