trans temp good or bad
 

hello , just installed a fuddle 3400 and trans cooler today.temp here today was around 85 degrees and 80 percent humidity in lower louisiana.i put a handheld lazer temp reader on the cooler and it read 176 degrees coming from the trans shop around 4 miles away.am i o.k with this temp.thanks for any of your input.also am i taking a reading from the right place ?

That temp range is fine but you should aim it at the pan under car for acurate reading

Is the pan the best place for the most accurate reading? Right now, I'm tapped into the plug on the side of the tranny and was thinking about replacing the pan and drilling and tapping a hole into it for the sender.

The warmest mine has gotten is 215.

I've have my temp. sender located in the pressue port on the side of the trans. It works fine, you are actually seeing the temp of the fluid that is circulating in the tranny. Temps above 220 are bad. At the track after a hard pass mine will read 200 + or - 5 degrees. On the street in the summer 190 - 210 are the normal.

It dipped down in the high 20's low 30's the other night. My car on a cold start it took awhile for the trans temps to come up. I would guess they were around 100-120 degrees with my 2 large coolers atleast thats what my temp guage was showing. You could definitely tell the trans was cold it was sluggish. Once it warmed up shifted great. In the 90-100 degree heat my unlocked pt4000 will run about 180 on the highway unlocked in the city bout 160-170
