help with 12 o'clock bolt!

Im taking my transmission out to put my rear oil gallery plug back into the motor but im having some trouble. I've got everything unbolted from the transmission, lines connections, everything - except for the top 12 o'clock bolt. I've got poly motor mounts so the transmission will not hang low enough for me to get extensions and a socket on it.

Help! what can I do??

You may have to support the engine some how and remove the engine mount bolts to get it to drop to where you need it.

I just replaced my transmission for the first time with the poly engine mounts installed and it was just as easy as with the worn factory rubber mounts. You need a 13mm, 3/8" drive shallow socket installed on a 3/8" universal adaptor. With that and a 24" extension I had no trouble removing or installing any bolts.

if you want the easiest way.... remove your intake. I had my intake off and you can just reach back, toss a 13mm gear wrench on it and off it comes. Just a thought.

i do it the same way. I think i use 2 -24" extensions sometimes and come from the tailshaft area all the way up.

mmk thank yall. If I can manage to pull down on it some and get those sockets up there I'll pull the intake before I unbolt those motor mounts.

Gilbert@Ace Racing Jan 20, 2008 06:17 PM

Wow, you guys get creative!

Take a long extension like what was mentioned... I personally use a 36" x 3/8" and the correct impact wobble socket. I come in above the right rear side of the case and dick with it for about 2-3 minutes and about the time I am becoming annoyed I am finished.

Don't make it any harder than it has to be... use the correct tools!

12 o'clock Bolt

Same poly mounts here.... long extension, and and swivel 13mm. on a impact gun.

Did you have to loosen your motor mounts any to do that though? These are literally brand new with 0 miles so they are as stiff as ever

Gilbert@Ace Racing Jan 20, 2008 08:24 PM

No, the engine does not need to be loosened up, repositioned or removed to enable you to remove the bolt.

Poly mounts here too and no problems. Do you have a friend with really long arms? I did and with several extensions he was able to get right to it. Just be patient with it.

Tainted Jan 20, 2008 10:05 PM

im 6"2' with lnog skinny arms and im still struggling

99Hawk262 Jan 20, 2008 10:17 PM

^^My buddy is 6' 4" so I guess your just screwed :jest:. Just keep at it, you'll get it. Even with the poly mounts, you should be able to pull the tranny down quite a bit. Also, make sure your lid and all that is disconnected. That gets forgotten quite a bit and can cause a bind and/or crack the lid.

Tainted Jan 20, 2008 10:53 PM

ok ill jsut take the lid off

98Camarod Jan 21, 2008 05:40 PM

That was one of the easier bolts I thought. I used 2 24" extensions and a swivel 13mm. I had trouble with the driverside top one. That was the bitch bolt

Sorry Tainted. If any body needs a break it's you. BTW, I ocasionally make it through your way (daughters B-ball games mainly). But I have a few friends in the area too. Maybe I can check out your shop sometime. Good luck!!!!!

Gilbert@Ace Racing Jan 21, 2008 08:34 PM

Shop? Did he just say .. Shop?

Dude, you have a shop and you are having trouble with getting this transmission out? Really?

I hope I got it wrong.
