T400/ Automatic Valve Body Q's?

I'm wondering if I can get a T400 that has an automatic valve body so I can have it shift itself in traffic but I can shift it at the track.

I recall in my 68 Chevelle I would shift the T400 with my ratchet shifter and I would wind out the shifters higher than the stock points.

I don't really care where it shifts on the street as long as it's like ~2500 rpms for part throttle. But I will shift it at 6600 at the track.

John, I was told by ATI when I ordered my tranny from them, that you can can get the auto shift, but you will want to shift it manually when racing or your tranny won't live to long.
I opted to get the forward manual shift though. Works fine and I even still have my stock shifter.

Just go with the good old reverse manual valvebody..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I enjoy shifting the car all the time, lets me have more control.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Not too street friendly. With a good converter john you dont need a transbrake with a FI setup honestly. I'm gonna keep an automatic version in my car and if i need some help spooln' i'll just put on a 50 shot to get going. Safer too imo, transbrakes are hard on everything

ive got a std valve body tranny.shifts on time when i shift, shifts by itself in traffic.i didnt want a manual valve body due to the driving i do.and a transbrake, everytime you go to reverse you got to hold youre transbrake buttom for it to move.for a straight up strip car,go manual valve body.if you do a lot of street driving get a std valvebody.btw, ive seen plenty of std valvebody th400s run in the 9s and hold up for a long time.and correct me if im wrong(George C)but ive always been told a transbrake doesnt really make the car faster, but makes it more consistent.what ive been told is a transbrake will make a car a little faster if it has too small a stall.

Re: T400/ Automatic Valve Body Q's?

Some cars will see more of an ET difference between footbrake & transbrake launches than others... My 60' is about .03 better with the transbrake. Plus, I bracket race the car in electronics classes along with a delay box, so a transbrake is pretty much a requirement.

As far as the reverse issue, I don't know of any TH400 transbrake valvebodies that have to be done this way. I can put my car in neutral and hit the transbrake button to back up, but it works just fine by putting it in reverse. A lot of powerglide "pro-tree" transbrakes are set up this way, though.

on my powerglide i had to put the car in reverse and hit the trans button that was a pita sometimes.

Not all TH400's with a transbrake need the button to be pushed to be in reverse. I have one and all I do it put the shifter in reverse and go. I dont even have my transbrake button hooked up yet.
