Default Will stock 4L60E survive a dyno tune?

I am deciding whether I should upgrade the transmission now or wait until it breaks.

I plan to buy some Trickflow heads and a custom cam that should put out well over 400 rwhp. My tranmission is a stock 4L60E with a Yank ss3600 and a transmission cooler.

Will it survive a dyno tune making all those WOT pulls or will it puke on the dyno?

That question is very relative to the units current condition. If it is in good shape and is not abused during the dyno session it should be ok. But just know that if it is a tired unit it may not get off the dyno!

I've seen it happen many, many times.

Give me a shout if you would like to explore some options.

Good Luck with it.

The transmission has about 57,000 miles on it with fresh fluids.

It also depends who the tech was that built the transmission. Some stock 4L60E's hold up better than built units I've heard of stock 4L60E's hitting 10's. Maybe the guy that built your 4L60E built it at 4pm on a Friday and was trying to get the hell out of the factory

It depends on so many factors. Not only does it depend on the quality of the stock build, it depends on your maintenance records, your driving habits, the average heat it sees, etc...a trans should hold up better in Maine than in Texas, for example, just due to average ambient heat.

With H/C and a lower mile tranny that has been maintained, I would GUESS it would make it through a dyno tune, but I would bet on it breaking within 2 weeks if it was a daily driver. That's a guess based on what I've learned from 4L60E's so take it for what it's worth.

I'll probably take my chances and if it breaks, o well. Its not a daily driver anyways.

Just wanted a few opinions, thanks.

I plan on "freshening up" the converter before I put it in a newly build transmission.
