Default Great choice for a fuel efficient car

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaPyn...layer_embedded

more interior room than a Nissan Maxima

more mpg than the competition

better warranty than the competition

less $$$ than the competition

29 city & 40 hwy...... this is achieved without direct injection, nor does it have variable valve-lift technology, a turbocharger, or auto stop-start.....all of which could further boost its fuel economy.

Many of those tricks are being saved until cost come down and demand for even better fuel economy increases.

Once cost on these improvements come down & Hyundai employs them on their next generation Elantra, could we see 50 mpg???

my guess is, YES

Note, this car does NOT have a hybrid option. If Hyundai decides on the next generation Elantra to include a hybrid model could we see 70 mpg???

explain to me how this Hyundai has more interior room than a Maxima that is 20 inches longer, on a 3.5 inch long wheelbase, 4 inches wider, and nearly 2 inches taller that the Elantra...........and the Elantra does have VVT.

good questions

the EPA which is the same organization that rates a vehicles fuel mileage, they also rate the interior volume & give the car a size category such as compact, mid-size, full-size

the EPA actually rates the 2011 Hyundai Elantra in the mid-size category even though Hyundai calls it their compact car...... its rated like that from the EPA based off the interior volume in cubic feet

http://www.leftlanenews.com/hyundai-elantra.html in the specs section you can see the passenger volume of 96.9 cubic feet

http://www.nissanusa.com/maxima/specifications.html under capacities you can see the passenger volume of 95.8 cubic feet

skip to 0:50

and you are correct it does have VVT but I said it doesn't have variable valve lift technology yet..... soon they will employ VVTL for more efficiency

well, its not an extra inch...... its an extra cubic foot

that being said, theres not much you can do with it

but, it is impressive that this car which is sold by Hyundai as their compact is large enough to be given a mid-size rating by the EPA..... and its interior passenger volume is actually larger than a midsize car...... all while getting 40mpg and being the least expensive among its competitors

Hyundai is doing more for less $$$

thats exactly what we need in this economy and with these gas prices

with their new model designs and their new line of engines they are really stepping it up...... which explains why they are having record numbers in sales in a economic time when everyone else isnt having record numbers...... most manufacturers aren't doing good at all but Hyundai is

all because they are offering more for less

Theyve got some nice cars. Recently we were in the market for a car exactly like that, and checked out the kias too simply for the warranty. They were smoking crack for what they wanted for their kia that was IMO ugly I could get a brand new civic. We honestly didnt even really think about Hyundais, kinda wish we wouldve. Oh well, the wife is happy with her civic si so I suppose thats all that really matters at teh end of the day.

At least for eco model there are people getting 50mpg highway with it. Id say looks better too but thats up to personal opinion.

And not that it matters to a lot of people but id prefer to support GM over foreign competition if they are that close in specs.

I'd rather have the Elantra than the Cruze, but in that segment I'd take the Civic Si every time.
