Bit early to be leaking info on a 2013 model isn't it? While its obvious they will up the HP in the current model when the 2012 ZL1 is out but I don't see it going over 600hp. But then again it just may happen.
As for GM running with tail between legs etc....I doubt it seeming its been proven numerous times the GT and SS are basically spot on with each other and boiling down to the driver mod. That and with the way sales are I doubt GM is worried to much.

Good Lord! It's just getting completely out of hand with this "war" of pony cars... I don't really care what they do, but to me, BOTH these cars, not unlike the Dodge Challenger, need a frigin' DIET more than they need more power!
The 5.8L part sounds intriguing though, I'll give'em that. 620hp? Pffft... Just let the aftermarket handle these chores... The blower choice is EXCELLENT, but man... it just bumps the price.

60k? I know this is apple and oranges comparison but you can buy a pretty damn low millage used z06 that has only 505hp that i'll take over this anyday.
A. the person that buys this gt500 will NOT be using it as a DD, and mustangs don't excite me that much....
B. Didn't the 5.0 Boss just set the record for the fastest mustang, thats why the GT500 has to up there hp every god damn other day, b/c they can't have their mid-level be faster than their top dog.
C. I'm sorry i can't get over the 60k part, thats retarded.

Not sure I believe the $60k sticker, the current one starts at ~$48k. And even though the Boss 5.0 is a little quicker, they are two totally different cars.
I find it pretty funny that Chevy hasn't even come out with the ZL1 yet and Ford is already bumping up the power haha. Whoever is in charge of this doesn't like to lose, +1 to that guy.

GM should have unveiled the ZL1 with the LS9 (not the LSA) and limited the production of it. GM would have blown Ford away instead of looking like they are catching up, which if this rumor is true, they are.
The ZL1 with an LSA is going to turn out to be an immense missed opportunity.

The main problem is that the LS series power plant is getting dated. Were going on nearly 14 years of production since it's inception. You can only punch it out so much before you reach the limitations of it's original design.
Kudos to GM for making this happen though.

If this is true, looks like Ford could have the upper hand for a little bit.
I thought we were going to see a new C7 Corvette around 2013ish? With newer LS-? motors switching to direct injection... That'll even the playing field again.
-That said, would the Camaro jump to the LS9 for two years if they're going to be ditching the motor in a couple years...

Y'all need to stop worrying.
First, 2013 is a long time away and this information is all hearsay. Can you bore a 5.4 to a 5.8 without stroking it??? If thats true, those cylinder walls are going to be very thin or Ford's cylinder plasma coating technology is amazingly strong.
Secondly, the LS-Series is dead. The Gen Vs are around the corner and they are expected to blow the LS-Series out of the water. I wouldn't be surprised to see a pair of twins on the next gen ZR1 or ZL1.

If the current LSX is dead then what better way to send it off than making an LS9 ZL1 instead of an LSA ZL1.
Not only would it have obliterated the GT500, it would have been a proper sendoff of the engine series and really done the ZL1 name justice.

I was so underwhelmed when they announced the ZL1 with the exact specifics people have been expecting for over a year now.
I like the idea of the ZL1 but I'm not sure if it will best the CURRENT-AS-IN-YOU-CAN-DRIVE-IT-NOW GT500, let alone A future one.

100% agree. Customers would have paid the extra couple 1000 extra for the LS9. Maybe they are going to do the COPO thing again??? I hope so. Seriously, the LS9 bottom end is ridiculous. Forged pistons, TITANIUM rods, and a forged crank all designed by GM. There would have been so many stock bottom end ZL1s making 1000+ rwhp on the streets.
