By the way... if some available numbers are any indication, the 2.3L and 3.7L will be VERY close in weight... like 30 or maybe 40 lb apart. The 3.7 apparently tips the scales at 366 lb or so while the 2.3L is around 335 lb. Still, the 2.3L makes more power and torque so it has obvious advantages. Oh... and I read that the 2.3L taps out around 6200rpm(factory setting of course) and the 3.7L goes to at least 6700 and can break 7k.
After countless rants about Gas/electric hybrids I see your finally starting to come around on the subject

Ya GOT ME! Wanna know something else.

I just read that the HP for the new Mustang GT was "kinda leaked" at the Dallas Auto Show, said to be 467... well, whatever. I'd be quite surprised really, if it goes beyond 450.

I think I missed it. How much does the new Mustang weigh?

I like the family resemblance in cars. Just not real fond of the front of the fords right now.

No official weight numbers yet, I seriously doubt it will be much less then the current car. The "rumor" drop in weight is probably the turbo 4cyl model I seriously doubt a GT with IRS will weight much less then the current car.

I will be surprised if the new GT weighs any less at all than the outgoing 2014.

Even the 2.3L doesn't have much advantage. Sure, it's going to weigh less than the GT, but the engine is only 30-40 lb less than the V6, so ... add the way forward inter-cooler w/ piping and this may be a draw.

That said, I do expect the car to be lighter, just not much lighter.

Ultimately, I think the Mustang is more on an exercise program to be in better overall condition and muscular, but I don't see it trimming much weight. Most recent talk on the engine says the 2.3L will be at least 310hp(from Ford) and with that, the GT is safe at the current power, even if it's 330. Who doesn't think it will be higher anyway? Nobody. My money would be on 430-5 hp and 400-10 tq.

Thousands of Mustang fans are expecting it to annihilate the 2014 GT and while it is sure to crush it on a road course, I don't see it being a straight line fiend w/o help from the aftermarket. IRS brings help while it hurts... simple as that. Ford has noted plenty as of late, the new car doesn't have the squat of the old and that DOES matter in drag racing. I suspect that's their que for drag racers, to be ready to modify there to start. There's ALSO plenty of talk about being able to order or over the counter, buy, a SLA rear and while that would be cool... I'd bet on it being $2,500 or more. Racers will grab and modify the 8.8.

Looks like it most likely will be gaining weight, not losing it. I'm not surprised but I'm sure plenty of people who have been harping about how light it was going to be won't be happy about it.

I can see the GT/GT500 possibly gaining some pounds over the current car since its IRS but at the same time the car is a little smaller so who knows I doubt it will a big difference though like some people are claiming or thinking.
