2017 Camaro SS 1LE looks to be very good.
First I hope this is being posted in the correct place. I think it is.
I've been very much looking forward to seeing how well this car performed. More so than even the ZL1. Reason being is A) I may be able to afford one someday and B) it's a N/A car. Running in the 1:37 minute range at Laguna Sega is impressive. I remember a few years back that any factory car that could break 1:40 at LS was considered a very fast OEM car.
I would like to see this thing pit up against a GT350R on a racetrack to see how they would compete. My bet is that against a GT350 base car that this would be faster even on the GY's where where the base GT350 is on Michelin PSS tire and I think the GT350R is on Cups, but I'm not positive on the tires.

Douchebag On The Tree
Car & Driver just did their Lightning Lap at VIR. They had both flavors of the 1LE. The V6 was decent, but the SS did very well.
This is how it finished in this year's competition:
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R
2:51.8 5th gen Z/28 ran 2:50.9 btw
2016 BMW M4 GTS
2:52.9
2016 Porsche Cayman GT4
2:54.0
2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE
2:54.8
2017 Audi R8 V-10 Plus
2:56.1
This is where it stacks up with years past. It's in some damn good company with supercars that are barely out of date. (Check out the ZL1 way down there, which is still impressive)
2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia
2:54.6
2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE
2:54.8
2012 Lexus LFA
2:55.1
2009 Nissan GT-R
2:55.6
2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
2:55.9
2017 Audi R8 V-10 Plus
2:56.1
2016 Cadillac CTS-V
2:56.8
2008 Dodge Viper SRT10
2:57.4
2014 Audi R8 V-10 Plus
2:57.5
2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
2:57.5

I would like to see a head to head comparison of a GT350 vs the new SS 1LE. The 350R should be a little faster. It's the V8 S550 Mustang that actually weighs sub-3700 lbs with very little unsprung weight relitive to its wheel/tire size do to CF wheels, it's rocking Michelin Pilot Cup 2's in I belive 305/315 sizes, is rated at having 71 more HP, etc. It's basically a track car that can be driven on the street. It's a shame that Ford limits its production to such low #'s where GM will sell as many Z/28's as they can.
The regular GT350 would be a nice matchup with the 1LE. Even though it has a HP advantage ever since GM started taking the GEN5's handling seriously they've tended to put out some serious overachievers with the Camaro. The new SS 1LE looks to be a faster track car than a GEN5 ZL1. I think VIR has been resurfaced fairly recently and it's faster than it used to be but still the fastest times I've seen posted for a ZL1 there was like a 2:58 and that was considered extremely fast 4/5 years ago. Hell I think C&D only lapped VIR in a Ford GT at like 3:01 or something like that.
The GT350 is much closer to a 1LE in pricing, tire choice, and their both full interior cars that are made to be good handling street cars that can do track work and not track cars that can manage on the street.
