Default The All New Dodge Demon Challenger..

Has Dodge gone too far with the new Demon Challenger? Even the NHRA wants nothing to do with it because it's banned. I mean a high 9sec car sold with a drag pack wheel setup that's street legal.. I can see a lot of folks getting into trouble with that thing lol.. one seat is standard (of course) the other seats are an option.. Nice looking car but not really feeling the fender flares.. What's your thoughts?

The pitch guy rubbed me the wrong way, especially with the whole "It's too fast for the NHRA" spiel, conveniently leaving out the fact that it's missing safety equipment to cut costs, and that's why it's been "banned"

It's kinda crazy what you can buy now. I'm all for a some mandatory classes for something like this though. I know they offer one with purchase but you probably don't have to go.

It's not banned...it's just not NHRA legal to run as fast as it's capable of without a cage.

Them putting a cage in a street car is not cost effective due to needing to have the whole car crash test rated again since it would alter how the crumple zones work and what not.

Also a caged street car is a legal nightmare the first time someone gets in a fender bender and his head hits the cage without a helmet on.

I'm not saying that it isn't any of those things, I'm just saying it's cheap marketing calling it "so fast it's been banned..." Yeah they wouldn't sound as good, but if it's sole purpose is a street legal drag car, shouldn't it be legal to run in the only sanctioning body for drag racing in the US? Perhaps a simple 6 point and "So fast we had to add in chassis support to make it legal!"

IIRC cages for a vehicle going that fast also have to be certified by an inspection performed by the sanctioning body.

At the end of the day it's just really not feasible to try to add one from the factory. Most drivers won't get a pass as fast as the advertised one anyway and the owners will be fine at the track.
