The GTO has never been a pony car. If you prefer your muscle pony style, it will never be the car for you.

If you want a brand new pony car, buy a Mustang. Have fun knowing it's built on a foreign engineered structure (Jag S-Type), that the chief engineer who oversaw the project is Vietnamese, and it's built in a Mazda plant.

The Zeta is also 100% Australian engineered, as you probably already know.

the 33XX is refering to the '04, not the '05. An 04 gt does not roll out of the factory at 3100 lbs... -g

Yeah, or even heavier as also stated above, I think that 3113 pound spec in the first post is a misprint or something.
The '05 might actually come in a little lighter than that 3400 pound+ depending on options, it does have an alloy block at least.

Well, the S Type platform has also been shared with (and was codesigned with) the Lincoln LS series from the beginning as well don't forget.
And is it actually a Mazda plant, I thought it was a fully Ford owned former Mazda plant (Ford as I'm sure you know owns a good portion of Mazda) maybe?

Road & Track listed the weight of the '05 over 3,400 pounds. Kind of heavy when compared to the previous models.

I know but it's sometimes hard to judge by car magazine numbers, I've seen their weights calculated with all the test equipment on board, a driver in some cases, full tank of fuel etc.
I'm sure a lower optioned, manual trans GT will come in under 3400 without driver, but probably not by much.

3400 lbs does not seem so bad. If you want I am sure it can be put on a diet.

The new Mustang has the style I want and I cannot help but feel some nostalgia when I see one. I hope to see a bigger power plant for 2006 though.

3400 lbs isnt that bad when you come with 50 more horespower like us, but not for them. I think this car was more of a disapoitment to me than the styling of the GTO. It's a 2v non-pushrod for pete's sake! The car will only get heavier with the different cars (Except the cobra, rumors are going how it will have the same power as the last, but with less weight than the GT). I see the Mach 1/Bullit weighing like 3700

It's a 3 valve actually.
And while I do see the other models (Mach 1 etc, if they ever actually make those versions that is) weighing a little bit more I doubt it will be that much more. And on the flipside of that, I have a hard time seeing how a Cobra version with more cams/valves and blower/intercooler/plumbing can weigh any less than 3400.

Ok, well it still isn't a DOHC/Pushrod right

From what I understand about the next cobra, it will be a lot like the old Cobra R's and the street version of the fast mustang will be the boss/mach/bullit/shelby

The 2005 stang is nice.

Sure isn't a ls1 putting around 245 to the tires stock.

MT says that the 4th and 5th gear are flat worthless. Thus, with different gears it should be able to run.
