FRICK. My worst fears have been confirmed. With Maser moving from Ferrari over to Alfa, what was once a sub Ferrari marque with some pretty sweet high revving medium displacement V8s has become an overpriced make with a lineup comprised of rehashed Alfas and V6 engines. On top of that, the CC is being spun from the 166 platform??? The 166 IIRC has been around for quite a while and is larger than the smaller, lighter and more up-to-date 159 platform. I misread the article at first. I thought it said that the CC was being spun from the 159 platform which is a pretty nifty basis (although still no replacement for the current Coupe IMO). Either the author of the article accidentily inserted 166 instead of 159, or in fact the CC is being built off of a large somewhat aging platform. WTF? On top of that I remember when it was the other way around and the Brera Coupe Concept shown at Geneva a few years back was packing a 4.2L Maser V8 under the hood. Now things have spun 180 degrees and the sexy 380hp V8 powered RWD Maserati Coupe has been replaced by a 3.5L V6 powered AWD car with only 280hp on tap. Sad. IMO this is bad news for Maserati. Especially when it doesn't seem like the price has dropped much from the current model.
Shiet even the Euro only 3200GT variant which packed a turbocharged 3.2L V8 (rather than the 4.2L natrually aspirated mill we got in the US) was better than this.
The only good news to come from this is that I'm sure we can confirm that this supposed 3.5L V6 packing 280hp will be the new GTA mill for the Alfa lineup.
