Default Under Hood Light

Got the hood light from Dodge Dealer.
Mopar Performance P56021441 Cost $23.
But I could not keep the light stock. So I added 1 watts led (2x) and a switch.

Here is it installed.

This was the only light on outside.

Looks good, I've been thinking about installing a light under my hood also.

Do the vice grips come standard with your hood strut?

The gravity switch on the light still works fine. The switch was just to kill power if you did not want it on.

I ran the power wire with a fuse to the battery and the negative wire to a bolt on the chassis.

Cool and definitely can be helpful! I cannot believe how cheap the manufacturer's have gotten to where they don't even put in a simple underhood light.

I forgot if it was only aftermarket or an oem unit, but I remember seeing one that was normally docked like that, but you could disconnect it and pull it down and around, etc. Must've had a tension spool (like a seatbelt) though, or else hanging wires wouldn't be fun

Edit - yeah, looks like they were used on 88-98 GMC trucks, for one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Retra...-/160570337422, so time for junkyard search!

My friends 92 GM truck has that light on the side.
This is the first car that never had a hood light
I got the ideal from the LX Forums.
Yes even Dodge is cheap.

It must be from the assumption that the general public are morons and only the dealer will be servicing the car... and never at night in the driveway or on the side of the road...
