Default oil leak - '04

I just got the car yesterday, and when I left the bank to drop off the paperwork I noticed a nice size puddle with some slow dripping of oil what looked like behind the engine/flywheel area.

Is this common, and what am I looking for in terms of issues pulling the tranny and clutch assembly? Any suggestions of other mods or upgrades I need to do while the tranny is out? I'm going to put it on a frame lift today to find the leak.

Thanks for looking,
D

If it's behind the engine/flywheel area then it doesn't sound like an oil leak, it sounds like a tranny fluid leak.

Without looking at it, there's not much chance any of us can tell you what it is. Getting it on a lift, as you plan to do, is the right answer.

Just hope that isn't clutch fluid.

Is the slave cylinder inside or outside the bellhousing?

The slave cylinder is inside the bellhousing. What color is the fluid? Also if the consistency is thinner it is probably brake fluid from the slave, if it is thicker it could be oil from the rear main seal or oil pan.

Damn phantom leak. I put it on the lift, then couldn't get the thing to leak. The bellhousing, oil pan, and everything back was dry. The only hints of oil leakage was on the right side of the block (which wasn't making it to the bottom of the oil pan) and a freshly wet area on the PS line that loops in front of the block.

All I can think is that I had a small PS leak or coolant overflow. What I don't understand is why it appeared to be near the bellhousing.

Anyway, it lives to see another day. I can start beating on this thing now and get my mod list going, starting with new motor mounts.

Thanks for everyone's inputs.

The A/C drain is right above the transmission.

It kind of makes sense because I never got to check the liquid after I backed out of the spot (someone rolled right in after I backed out). It looked like oil because it was on black asphault.

I still have a significant leak on the PS line because it still wet (checked it this morning with a floor jack). Other than that, all is good.
