'07 w/ high miles - worth a look?
Looking to get into a new (to me) car. At first I wanted a V, then started looking at GTOs as there weren't many Vs in my area. Did a search out of the blue and found one nearby at a good price. Miles scare me, but at the right price I might just be willing to go for it.
The car is a 2007 w/ 109,000 miles. Listed at $18k. I could drop by tomorrow to look at it, but I figured LS!Tech would be able to tell me if it would be a waste of my time to consider a V with this many miles.
One factor at play in my decision is that I drive a lot. Probably 25k miles per year. I don't want to get into a pristine, low-mileage car and depreciate the hell out of it over the next two years. Hopefully I move closer to work eventually, but for the foreseeable future I'll have the same driving habits.
Some may suggest that I just stay with my current car and get something nice once I'm driving less, but I'm really ready for a change and could use somewhat better gas mileage (2003 Tahoe).
Thanks in advance.

$18k isn't too bad depending on the condition. I'd go check it out. Besides if you want a V and you drive a lot, you're better off with higher mileage anyway as to not kill the value of the car so I agree with your statement. Anything up to 170K miles or more I wouldn't be overly concerned about the powertrain or have plans on a refresh.

Id say for 18k, and being an 07 thats a pretty good deal, even more so that im sure you can offer 16.5 or 17 and theyd probably still go for it. 109k is not alot for these stout V8's. And yea, im not sure a V is the rite car for 50k+ miles per day in a V.

I picked up my 06 for 15.5k with 84k miles. They wanted 18 also, 19.8k out the door (I left at (16.3). Key is to go in with cash or bank check. Play hardball and nit pick every little ******* thing like your not sure you really want it.....don't even like the color (even if you really do) and mention that you have some M3's to test drive yada yada...play the game man.
Only real thing that I could see it being more expensive for an 07 would be the factory warranty, but thats up so....

Other thing about the '07 is the upgraded rear end.

V's get better gas mileage than Tahoes? News to me :-) It's been said, but high mileage is no biggie for ls motors. Make sure the motor mounts have been replaced. When you drive it, try not to be so exited that you love the car and really listen to the rattles. There are a ton of them and I didn't care in month 1, started looking for them month 2, accepted that I couldn't fix them month 3, started getting annoyed month 4, really sick of them in month 5, wished I bought a BMW month 6. Actually, I still love the car. I just pretend I'm in an old chevelle...

Rear end really worries me in the 04-06, pretty much not considering one due to the rear end issues. Am I over-worrying about that if I'm not planning on heavy mods? Seems like a lot of them have gone bad on cars without many mods.

I have a bit over 80k on our '07 V. It is completely stock. I bought it with 24ish on it. Only thing I have done to it is the motor mounts under warranty. The only rattles are the center console. Seems to be the armrest that lifts up I think. It has been a good car so far and aid off in a few more weeks! Good luck on your search.

I picked up my '05 with 115k miles on it for $12,500. It had longtubes, x-pipe and catback, k&n intake, PRC heads and a cam. Runs great and I haven't had any issues other than replacing the shifter. There's better deals out there to be had I believe.

i paid right at 20k for my 06 V with 95k on the clock... body was in great shape, interior was in great shape... already had some ported ls3 heads, cam and long tubes in the garage waiting for the car... when i pulled the heads, no scoring of any kind in the cylinder was, the crosshatch (sp) marks from the factory bore. everything was in tip top shape. i had that same worry about high mileage... i plan on turboing the ls2 before putting in the 408. great motors

Drove it today - drove really well. Slight squeak coming from around the shifter, didn't notice any other rattles or noises though. Last owner put 33,000 miles on it between December 2010 and February 17, 2012. First one put an average of 18,000/year in two years of leasing it. Sounds like it has a ton of highway miles on it.
I'll expand my search to include 04-06 based on what some of you have said. This one seems like a good fit for me so far, though. My concerns now are potential repair costs once I'm in it. No major repair work done based on Carfax. Off the top of my head, I'm looking at the following costs soon, huh?
-Motor mounts Edit: When driving, I noticed some shaking when coming off the clutch on a gear shift. I thought maybe I was just rusty (haven't driven manual in about 4/5 years) and it was poor shifting. Reading a bit on motor mounts, now thinking maybe they were the cause - could that be the case? Or was it likely user error after all?
-Clutch
-Brakes
Anything else I should consider?

109k aint bad at least it has the better diff which is the number one weak link for these cars. It all depends on how it was taken care of. Motor mounts arnt to expensive and id say replace them anyways along with rear diff bushing, shifter and bushing. Other than that they are pretty reliable cars. Only problem i had out of mine in 2 years was shifter bushings, alternator pig tail (service bulletin) and battery. I would however look into a clutch and slave. Mine had 116k when sold and was running strong.
