I'm new to cts v's so be nice if this newbie asks what seems to you old salts as silly.

I'm guessing that 2004 and 2005 V's are the only
years that have the 6 lug wheels. Are there any aftermarket 6 lug rims
available? Will other GM 6 lug wheels work?

Will someone confirm this?

That really limits wheel choice because there are
so many wheels offered in 5 lug for 2006 and up.

Can I assume the hubs can be drilled to accomodate
5 lug wheels?

Also does anyone know why they stopped using 6 lugs?

Seems like it would be stronger.

2004-2007 V's all have the same 6 lug. Other GM 6 lug wheels will not clear the brake calipers, so I don't think any of them fit. There are a couple aftermarket options, some very expensive, but recently there is a group buy on a new wheel. Check the recent threads and you'll find it.

Swapping parts to run 5 lug wheels is not simple, and I believe you lose your parking/emergency brake in the process. I only know of one person that completred the swap, but maybe there are a couple more.

They probably stopped using 6 lug wheels because it was a stupid idea in the first place. If a bugatti veyron only need 5 lugs, our cars sure as hell don't need 6 for strength.

2009+ V's have 5 lug wheels.

You don't lose the parking brake. Keep your stock rotors just have them redrilled for 4.75 x 5 bolt pattern and use c5 corvette hubs. You can use V2 rotors if you open up the hub center hole and use V2 front calipers. Rear calipers are same V2/V1. V2 rotors are already 5x4.75 5x120

If you use late model Camaro SS rotors do you lose the parking brake? I have seen conflicting answers to that question and it sure would be nice to be able to buy off the shelf rotors for the conversion.

To my knowledge there are 6 non-custom options
1) Team Dynamics wheels (Lindsay Cadillac) 18"
2) GM Accessory wheels 18"
3) Rota (Wheel dude) 18"
4) Linea (wheel dude) these may rub your trailing arms during hard cornering 19"
5) Forgestar F14 (group buy currently going on) 19"
6) STS-V wheels 19"

www.wheeldude.com has 18" and 19" options for the 1st gen Vs. The 18" wheels (Rota Torques) have identical dimensions to stock, so they fit with no issues. The 19" wheels (Linea Corsa Venetos or LC855s) have caused some rubbing issues in the rear for some folks (myself included). You can find a number of threads about that, and how to fix it, here or over on cadillacforums.com.

Those new Forgestars definitely look fantastic on other cars. I'm looking forward to seeing them on a V!

I like the team dynamics in black, best value deal out there imo and mine came with center caps so looks fine on the street. ~22 pounds a wheel 18x9, can run 255/40 or 275/35 square setups. Might even be able to get a 285/35 to fit on the back with little to no trailing arm clearance modifications but nobody has either done it or posted about it.

I just today ordered a set of black Team Dynamics. I ordered center caps and some "Better be worth it" aluminum lug nuts.

Crazy expensive lug nuts 24 @ $5.25 ea= $126.00 worth of lug nuts.

Maybe I'm nuts.....

Or I'm getting CTS V aftermarket fever.

I'm not sure what would make aluminum lug nuts "worth it", but $126 is awfully expensive. Rumor has it you can spend about 1/3 that much on Ebay if you really insist on buying aluminum lug nuts. Where did you find such expensive ones?

I found them at the same place I ordered the wheels from. They said I needed them to lose unsprung weight. They offered some of a lessor quality for $3.25 ea
$3.25 X 24 = $78.00 Maybe they just saw me coming and took advantage of my ignorance. It's a done deal now so I won't cry because I'm a big boy. One plus is if I have any problems with the wheels themselves they won't be able to say I didn't use their premium lug nuts.

One question?

Since the lug nuts are aluminum and the wheel studs are steel should I use anti-seize on the threads? I know not to use an impact and to torque them.

I would probably use anti-seize to lessen risk of stripping the lug's threads, but wouldn't suggest aluminum for lug nut material to begin with. Critical component with a weaker material doesn't make sense, but that may be the engineer in me talking. In all likelihood it's probably fine. Definitely correct, don't use an impact and torque by hand.

Unsprung weight? Nothing significant will be saved by lug nut material change.

I have only reviewed some of the ebay aluminum lugs, but the ONLY lugs I would use on my car would be from 949Racing. High quality aluminum, generous radii, properly sized hex head size, anodized, top quality and very reasonably priced. I ran the 949Racing lugs on a supercharged OT Miata without issue. You just have to have pay a little more attention to keeping the lug nuts and studs clean of debris.
