Dont know whether i should be happy or sad.. all signs are pointing to rear main seal... 800 bucks and a day worth of work at shop around the corner. Just flipped 76k on the odometer so should i get a new clutch since tranny has to be dropped to get to rear main?

Yes, get a new clutch for sure. At that point the labor is nothing. I recommend LS7.

sucks about the rear seal, i would suggest going for an excedy twin disk. Mine has about 35k on it, with track days, cross country trips and my wife daily driving the V 120 miles a day.

The clutch has been prob the best buy i have done for this car.

TSB...Technical Service Bulletin. Its GM saying we know there is a problem and here is the fix...but its not a warranty issue unless still under factory warranty.

If its from your tranny it might be from the vent tube especially if its been changed recently and was over filled. It gets everywhere and looks like its leaking from everywhere.

so the rear end of the tranny is leaking... where the driveshaft goes in so i think its rear input shaft or output shaft.. and the rear bushings are gone... the exhaust has to come down for this fix... here we go... dayum you need to be back stateside DMM!!!

That tail shaft seal was ~$20 part and about 2 hours labor on the floor of my garage. That was the first time I had pulled the driveshaft so learning curve is implemented into labor hours. Shouldn't take more than an hour if you have pulled it before.

Edit: 2 hours also accounted for trans fluid replacement

Since the bushings in the rear are trashed, what did some of you guys replace them with? or did you put stocks back in there?

so for the shifter seal, rear seal where the driveshaft goes in to the tranny, and rear bushings this place is trying to charge me just under 1000 bucks... does this sound about right to you guys?(in the Maryland area)... i understand the exhaust has to come down and driveshaft out but does that sound over priced?

So the old dude has changed his price to 500 for the work since i found the parts for 270 from the caddi dealership. 2 new questions...
1. what tranny fluid do you guys recommend? i've been told b4 but i forgot to write it down
2. what bushings can/do you upgrade the rear end to? factory or is there a company that makes good rear end bushings for our cars?

Thanx!

Amsoil torque drive is good as is Penzoil synchromesh. differential bushing is made by creative steel if that is the bushing you are referring too.
