Found a pool of water in spare tire compartment
It smelled musty every time I opened the trunk, so I knew water had to be somewhere. Found literally a pool of water underneath the plastic storage bin where the spare tire would be on a normal CTS. Nothing in the trunk was wet so I figure it has to be coming in from somewhere in that compartment.
The plastic bin is held in by 4 security screws that are a circle with 3 equally spaced "prongs" sticking out of the circle. Anyone know where to get this type of bit? I sucked all the water out but it is still damp and I want to get to the bottom of this.

Yup ruined two $3k stereo systems from the same thing. I seam sealed the crap out of the side panels which fixed mine, I didn't have an issue with the trunk bezel but I would seam seal the deck lid as well. Also check the sunroof drain lines which run right through the trunk into the rear wheel wells, one of mine slipped out. They are on both sides of the trunk behind the side plastic bezels.

I found a leak from the seam that runs between the rear fender and trunk that goes to the tail lights. Had to take out the trim and lay in the trunk while the wife poured water around the trunk.

MAJOR thread bump. Wife was saying that the car smelled moldy and that the sun roof was leaking for the past year while she was driving it. I took it over for DD duty a couple of months ago and the smell has gotten EXTREME. Needed to do a brake swap so I pulled the spare tire cover to look at the spid and holy S!!! GALLONS OF WATER in the spare tire sump. F U cadillac.

It was cold and rainy yesterday, same as today. Makes me not want to do anything outside on the car. I pulled the spare tire, sub and other S out. I think I'm just gonna drill a few holes to let the water drain and make sure it never accumulates again.
I also realize that I have a 2nd gen where it looks like I posted in a link for 1st gens. Nice to know Caddy fixed the problem with the newer body style.....

I thought about drilling holes in the trunk lid itself. I determined that is not a good idea, because the trunk would not dump to the exterior. The water would dump to the trunk. in the wheel well.

Check the sunroof drains. These clog but I think they usually go into the cabin.
Remove the tail lights and check the gaskets where the pigtails from the taillights pass through into the trunk. This was mine and it filled quickly. Gallons, like yours.
Check your rear seat cushions, bet they got wet on braking, making it impossible to get rid of the smell from the foam. If it's a tiny spot, 50/50 bleach water can do the trick. Otherwise, you'll need new seat foam.
Once you solve the issue, you'll need to get rid of most of the trunk fabric: all the jute and much of the carpet, etc. I was able to keep the sides but had to replace everything on bottom. It's a mess but it can be fixed and disinfected. I took it as a chance to deaden the trunk properly...but cussing all the while.
