Default CTSV VETTE C3 rear end conversion

I saw some other guys set one up. I have got the goods on a C3 unit that will handle 1500hp and 30 spline setup. I have a spare subframe that will start fabbing the mounts for the c3. No pictures yet as a subframe is a subframe. I think that doing this will exceed the capability of the 8.8 or a custom 9". My plan will budget below the 8.8 I think. We shall see.

Good luck. Didn't most of the later C3s have like half the HP of the V?

Tom's differentials builds a kit to put a 12 bolt center section in there. They were telling me they have 7 sec vettes with their conversion. and you can get a 30 spline config. I am working with my speed shop to come up with a modified cradle the you can buy and add the rest of the stuff you can get otc.
Driveshaft, halfshafts, diff and cradle thats it.

A 9" is very strong, and has 35spline (and possibly 40spline for $$$) axles. I'd be very surprised if one of these with a 12bolt center section out performed a 9". It might have less drivetrain loss than the 9" though. However, a built 9" setup is $$$.

My 12bolt experience come from 4wd applications so it isnt exactly the same, but in stock form they are better than 10 bolt but still lack strength. Im sure a built 12bolt diff/axles would be strong, but then I think the price really jumps up.

Regardless, im curious to see how this turns out, and what pricing would be for a "complete" setup. More options are always good.

They haven't made many changes to the third member since 63 and they have been doing the L88s, LS6s pushing insurance rated 450HP. A 9" means expensive custom housing. and hopped up parts. double the price double the design. right now the nine inch conversion is 5k without the center section.

C3 diff would be nice, as would a C4 Dana 44. I don't see either of these being a major competitor for the 8.8 though.

That V for sale has got train wreck written all over it...8.1 compression? IAT sensor in the airbox? Probably blew the original motor up with too much timing since the IAT sensor isn't in the manifold reading actual IAT's from the hot air Maggie and built an 8.1 motor in response to that. What an outstanding example of what not to do....

Why in the world would you put the IAT in the air box on a blower! crazy talk... He has a thread going on the other forum trying to sell, probably because he just blew the motor after he bought it from his coworker..

Correct me if I'm wrong but all this talk about 8.8" or 9" or whatever size you have... Don't they still use half shafts that would most likely break first? I would think that's the limiting factor

I just do not understand why spend all the time, hassel, and money for a better rearend when 2 other kits already exist? When I can put an 8.8 in my car for 3500$ total. While that is no doubt alot of money, sourcing the parts necessary , and the time of fabbing it all up , I'm sure will add up quick to easily be near that.

I mean Gulf and the guys already have a budget 8.8 kit in the works...

So if building your own 1 off kit is your thing, then I guess it is your thing. I wish you the best and I'm sure I will be reading along. Good Luck!

You guys probably know this but we offer a pretty much bolt in 9" IRS kit, 35 spline inner stubs, 35 spline Strange S-Strac posi and we now offer 31 spline axles. There isnt anything stronger out there.
The entire kit turn key complete with the pumpkin is $6698. normaly, on sale right now for $6,000.

Yup we know. And the kit is dope, no doubt about it. But dropping 6k at once for the V1 crowd has all but come and gone. The V2 guys have money haha and if they needed a better rear you would be selling more. But...they dont. Worry not, when ever I win the lottery, or come into money some other way I will be buying one of your kits for my V.

Yup. Got mine for 11k so justifying a kit that is better than 50% of the car value is crazy!

Thats fine. But Stage 1 setup we are looking for around 1-2k to get it done with stock internals and use base equipment, axles and half shafts. Those have all been made by others beefed up. So I'm still moving forward. Plus the fact that the stock ones hold up pretty good on modded stuff on those vettes.
