I'm in the middle of tearing My 06 V down For a cam swap and found a worn out/defective harmonic balancer. I can twist the outer pulley by hand while the inner part of the balancer stays still. Time to replace it! The ATI super dampener looks nice but not in My budget. Should I just get a stock one? Anybody know part #'s? The ones listed in this thread are for truck engines.

i have a tough time justifying putting on a stock part that fails. the ATI is sweet but expensive. like i said above i have used powerbond units with great success. they seem to hold up great and not develop that wobble.

Got a New GM balancer off eBay for $130 shipped. I've read about the power bond pulleys taking out timing chains so I steer clear of those. The stock balancer has lasted 145k miles so really can't complain. Thanks for the info guys!

news to me. stocker will get her done. carry on. for what its work i just did a quick search and turned up nothing definitive. timing chains snapped with anything from stock to asp balancers. i used one on an fbody for 100k no issues. been on this car for 7k no issues.
keep an eye out for the wobble. it may be back in a couple years. it seems ATI or bust when it comes to peoples opinions on balancers.

My LS6 (and others if you search) was a little "vibey" in the 2000rpm neighborhood so I went with the ATI because it's been said it's a better "balancer". Not saying you can't get good service out of a stock unit but the ATI is better at dampening vibrations from my experience as my car is a bit smoother with it.
Fortunately, I had the time to shop for a blem which I ebayed for $220 to my door. If my car was down and I needed a balancer today, a stocker would be just fine but I think the ATI has applications other than high rpm, high stress scenarios. If you have the time to wait on a blem, I think the ATI is worth it but for $400 plus, I'd pass....
