It's not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination. It's more along the lines of a GT. That said, I had no issues playing grabass with real sports cars (911/Cayman/Boxter, M3, Corvette, etc) on the track.

It's like a 5-series BMW, E-class MBZ, 6-series Audi. With bigger ***** and a shitty interior.

You can realistically pick up a V1 for about $15k. Realistically, a V2 isn't going to be $30k. I'm sure you can find a salvage titled one or one that is in worse shape than a V1.

Is the rear any stronger in the 09+? I mean if I bought a 2007 CTS V for $20,000 and put a rear in it, Im into it for $24,000, mine as well spend the extra 6 to 8K for a 09+ V.

Also, I have another question, is everyone happy with the CTS V as far as a sports car? Or do you wish you had a Mustang/Camaro, Corvette?

I do not wish I had a Camaro or Mustang. This car is not like either of those; it's much more along the same line as a BMW or Audi, a grand tourer versus a muscle/pony car.

That may or may not appeal to you.

V1 feels more like a muscle car, I love mine for this reason alone, plus it looks uch better than the V2. V2 feels like i'm in a space ship or something lol, it's nice, too nice really, more like a m5 which also doesn't have that 'feel' like the M3 does. I think the V1 cts-v is more like the m3 in terms of how it feels and with what I did to mine it also feels like like an old school muscle car at the same time which is the 'effect' I wanted.

Stock WHP on 06-07 is 350-380 , depending on various factors. With 5k into it (exhaust, cam, intake, headers, tune, maybe even ported heads) you can get over 400 whp easy which makes it do under 13's in the quarter which is very fun to drive. The rear will hold up fine as long as you don't drop it (i'd suggest putting all the bandaids in anyway). Engine is very reliable if you take care of it and the T56 in the 06-07 is different from the 04-05 (internally) so it works a bit better.

If you want to modify it the best bet is to find one with a TON of miles on it 100k+ and then have someone redo the engine so it's brand new and you'll have something extremely reliable that you can beat on with the exception of the rear which you could replace later.

Thanks for the input. Im looking for a car that I can throw a cutout on it and bolts on eventually. I dont want to dump a ton of money into.

Can you fit wide rims on these cars? I had 17x11 in the rear of my Fbody.

I'm pretty sure the only difference is the GM and Mopar/Ford ones with different internals. I think is bronze syncs in the GM and steel in Ford/Mopar apps.

So are most of you motorheads? Like working on your cars? Or do you have others work on your cars?

I am a motorhead but would like to keep the internal part of this engine stock, maybe a ported TB or snout if supercharged.

rear end is fine on the street if you drive like an adult. And I don't mean slow. 103k on mine no noise it's solid.

Default Love my 2010 V

Im not seeing anyone chime in with the supercharged V, I guess not many have this car?[/QUOTE]

I just picked up a 2010 CTS-V and its amazing: 556 hp/ 551 lb torque, supercharged, recaro seats. Interior is amazing.

I've only had my car for a month and a half and I can tell you that they can easily become money pits if you let them. That's true of any car if you are a gearhead. It's a disease, always wanting to improve anything that can be improved. You say you only want a ported TB, but trust me, you'll want long tubes, a tune, springs or coilovers, list goes on. Every day I have to remind myself to slow down and not buy all the parts on my dream sheet. I'm not the type who likes to drop the clutch at the light, so I know I made the right choice. I hope to own this thing for another 10 years.

Indeed! It's especially easy when you watch the forums and see what other people are doing. Sure your stock V is fast, good looking, handles and stops well, until you compare it to some of the big dogs here.

I had done a fair amount of research on common problems before buying my car, but I didn't realize all the little improvements they made to the '06/'07s (cradle bushings, for one). It makes me that much happier that I went with '07. I was this close to saving $4k and getting an '04, but wow, so so glad I held out for this one. Sometimes it feels like you're saving money, but in the long run, buying a nicer, lower mileage car is usually better.

I hear ya, I am trying to research what they fixed on each. My car was cheap, $9000, but in the long run to fix everything it cost me more. So what did they fix from 2007 to 2009?

'07 to '09? They fixed everything. I just couldn't justify spending 15-20k more. I like financial stability more than having a fast car. That's why I'm trying to keep my modding plans reasonable; otherwise, I'll end up spending the same amount of money.

I think that one is a decent deal and there's an 04V on that same link you posted for $11.9k. As far as 09+ are you willing to spend $40k and insure said vehicle? If not keep looking at 04-07's.

Yeah, now that I am doing some research I am leaning towards a 04-07 and save the $20k.

So what was fixed during each year and what would it cost to fix each?
