Default Kooks Headers finally in! (Uncoated)? Question

what's up guys, my kooks LT headers with mid cats came in for my 06 V, i ordered these on impulse without researching first. I'm hearing i NEED to get these headers coated. I live in michigan. I ordered from maryland speed. My question is, is it a recommendation to get these headers coated and if so how and where do i send them? Thanks for any help, Nick

I do not believe in coating stainless headers, it's a debatable topic. I would not worry about it much if I were you, but if it gives you piece of mind you may want to look into it.

I wouldnt waste my money. I had Kooks on my car for 2 years in MAryland and it saw rain, and plenty of salted roads and they still looked brand new.

Look up Hot Jet Coat.

I had mine (B&B) done and they came out ****.

Whatever you do, don't wrap them.

if you have 1 3/4 no need to coat, if you have 1 7/8 you may want to wrap up to where the sparkplug boots are so you dont burn through them like i did...

went through 4 sets in a month. and they are not cheap

Just do the appropriate heat shielding from other engine bay components and you should be fine.

Clutch line, brake lines, alternator wire, starter wires and casing itself, spark plug wires...

Keep an eye on the wires going to the starter as well.

I got my 1 7/8" kooks from Maryland as well. I went with their recommended coating option. If not for looks do it for reduced temps in your engine bay. The coating acts as an insulator and keeps alot of the heat in the pipes.

Any quality stainless will last a while even in michigan, adding the coating will just add extra protection and longevity to your $$$ header investment on top of helping reduce underhood temps.
