Any Torque app users here? I caught wind of this app a while ago and thought it'd be fun to play with for the $15 it took to buy the app and get the OBD II bluetooth dongle from eBay. (sidenote: DONGLE...what a fun word) Now that I have it though, I'm not too familiar with what I should be seeing in terms of numbers on the various readouts. I was watching the MAF, air temps, fuel trims, timing, cat temps, and AFR while cruising on the highway the other day and while it was cool to have all that info at my fingertips, I really didn't know what was "normal" or if anything was out of whack. A few things I noticed and wondered about: - I could only get a "commanded" AFR, which always seemed to stay at 14.7 if I recall correctly. I couldn't get an on-demand/measured reading - The timing advance read between 38* and 40* while cruising at 125km/h (75mph). That seemed like a lot of advance for me, but maybe that's normal when the engine's under light load just cruising. - The intake temp was about 15* warmer than ambient... perhaps my K&N FIPK is drawing too much hot air from under the hood? - MAF reading got well over 400 cfm when I was givin' 'er - Cat temps on the highway hung around 1600*, with about a 20-30* variance from one cat to the other Anyway... it's a neat little tool to play around with; especially for less than $20. Anyone have any tips or things to watch for next time I'm using it? |
These cars don't have a factory wideband O2 sensor, which is why you can only see commanded AFR. Not a useful parameter if you're just checking on how the car is running. Timing advance is high at low rpm/low load, so that's fine. Your intake temp is never going to truly be ambient, also normal. Some useful parameters to monitor are LTFT and STFT (long term fuel trim and short term fuel trim). If you see large values for any length of time (such as 15%), it can indicate a leak or malfunction, but don't freak out too much unless you notice other things wrong with the car. Not much else to monitor since we have the oil, coolant, and trans temp as well as oil pressure on the dash. Depends on what kind of data you want, in terms of troubleshooting and whatnot, though. |

I love the app and use it to clear codes etc. pretty cool to see the different dials and stuff running as well. Using it on my Sony tablet. |

app works great. anyone have PID for oil pressure/temp? i'd like to see the temps and pressures on the fly vs scrolling through the dash. the trans and coolant temp are available at least. - The intake temp was about 15* warmer than ambient... perhaps my K&N FIPK is drawing too much hot air from under the hood? |

For WOT you need a WB sensor to make sure you are getting the proper amount of fuel into the cyl. Anything less than 3500rpm you can cheat and use the NB to tune your MAF and VE. I tuned the MAF on my 2010 Tahoe this way and with no issues. Just make 60-80% corrections and you wont over shoot the adjustments. I get +/-4 LTFT adjustments and leave it there. Once i get my Caddy started i will tune the VE first, then MAF for less than 3500, then turn my attention to WOT. |

Torque scan plugin will allow you to add all the standard GM PIDs. Search for it and run the scan and you'll get oil pressure & temp. |
I have not gotten oil temp to run on torque either. I downloaded Torque Scan plugin but only tinkered for about 2 minutes before work this morning. I did however clear a code that sets every so many days for me ;/ |
The PID that I REALLY want is the knock sensor, but Torque Scan can't find it. I was trying to determine if I'm hearing knock or just some other random noise. I guess it doesn't matter much since the motor is hurt anyway, hah. |
There is a Knock Plugin that I have on my torque app. it is called "Knock Detector" https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...kills.kd&hl=en It is vague but it told me "possible detonations" |

I've seen people post about it taking 3 hours before, but it only took about 1.5 hours to do the full scan and probe all the extended OBD-II PIDs on my 2005 CTS-V. I will post the log here, below. I haven't cross-referenced this log with the extended GM PID list that @FBDYLVR mentioned, which is included in the app itself, but I expect some different PIDs will appear in my log, specific to the first generation CTS-V. When I ran the full scan, I used the default "auto" header, which returned the list below of Mode 22 GM extended PIDs on my car. The documentation on the Torque website and forum is pretty vague, but I get the idea that if you enter a different header for TorqueScan, you may be able to scan different computers on the car. Ian Hawkins gave the example that the OBD header field in TorqueScan can be "auto", or blank, or "TCM", or "7E0", etc., in this forum thread: https://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpfor...topic&t=1253.0 In another thread on that forum, Capp777 mentioned different header entries for the transmission control module on different vehicles here: https://torque-bhp.com/forums/?wpfor...topic&t=6399.0 I haven't yet tried scanning with any different header than the default "auto" that comes up in TorqueScan, and it gives me all these Mode 22 results. But I wonder if it could probe the Body Control Module, if I entered BCM in the header, for example. Hmm. That would be a question for Ian Hawkins, but he doesn't seem to be supporting his Torque app any more, unfortunately. That would let us compare the responses to each PID command, and so to zero in on all the PIDs that relate to temperature. Obviously, my log relates to a warmed-up engine. |
