Default 06 CTS-V Transmission Fill-plug Size?

I tried changing my transmission fluid yesterday. Per a DIY I was following, I should be able to remove the fill-plug using a 3/8" ratchet. But the fill-plug looks to be an allen style bolt, similar to the fill and drain plugs in the differential. Thinking it would be the same 10MM allen wrench bolt like in the diff, I tried it on the transmission, but the 10MM allen was too big. I took a 9 MM allen, but it was too small. The 9MM had too much slack, which would probably round out the inside of the plug head if I was to force it.

Does anyone know what the proper size tool to open the fill-plug? I'm guessing its probably an SAE size allen that will work.

Looks like you have a non-original fill plug. Mine was the 3/8" square for a ratchet.

You know, that never crossed my mind that it was a square hole. I'll try again later tonight when I get off work. I bet mine is a 3/8" ratchet square hole too. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yup, the square face of the 3/8" ratchet was all that was needed. Drained my old fluid and replaced with Amsoil. Wow, what an improvement. Who knew the good ole Tremec T56 transmission could shift as buttery smooth as a BMW
