Default Custom air box lid for volant CAI

Hey guys I just purchased my V not long ago and it is equipped with a Volant CAI with the carbon fiber "look" air box cover. For some reason I wasnt a fan of that look on the air box cover so I am going to be fabbing up a plexi glass cover for the volant air box. Just wanted to make a small build thread to show the before and after look of it. Pics are soon to follow!

The Volante is inherently a POS so any improvement is warranted. My top was warped when I got it and I have thought about doing the same.

I already tried to take the warp out; filled the emblem mounting holes and painted it satin black.

Yah I wish just my top cover was warped. The whole top of my air box is warped. I ended up running some self adhesive foam around the top of mine trying to get it to seal up.

How thick of a plexiglass are you going to use? It might discolor and warp in the engine bay. It's pretty warm in there. Of you go thick enough, it probably won't be an issue, but it isn't exactly meant to withstand engine bay temps like the high density plastics or metals.

Sounds like the original materials don't fare much better. Certainly something to worry about if you're going to put in the effort. I wonder what actual rating would be sufficient? 300F? More?

My Volant airbox and lid seem to be perfect.

Its probably more that there is or was a number of lots of poorly made lids. Have you guys informed volant? Most of the times companies would keep records of lots that were out of spec.

you can do so much better with the 3.5" tube and even 4" if you have a 90mm TB.

The volant had its time with me where i didnt have space for anything for i ran the ron davis rad and FAST intake.

Now i buddied up with samco and they helped me with a 105mm tube to help me match my TB.

The sheet of plexiglass I got is almost double the thickness of the original volant lid so it should be fine. I have some rubber gasket material to put around it for a nice seal. I'll post pics of the setup when it's complete

I did this a few years back on my 3.2 CTS volant intake. Its the exact same premise. Lexan, dremel, done.

You gotta do something sweet with the air filter now... Since you'll be able to see it.
