Default Weird sound

This car is never short of surprises, no idea what this sound is and it comes and goes abruptly. It doesn't matter what gear i'm in, speed or whether i'm coasting or in gear it just randomly comes and goes....Any ideas?

It can't be exhaust related because it's done it with factory exhaust, now it has headers and full exhaust.

Try putting some dampening material in the spare tire well.

Sounds like something resonating with road vibration.

I forgot about that (carrier bearing).

I replaced the driveshaft a while ago (one piece carbon fiber).

If it does it while coasting in neutral how could it be a driveshaft issue? The driveshaft isn't spinning so it can't make any noise. Another thing is it doesn't gradually start whining, it start like someone turns on a switch and same goes when it stops, weird.

I've never had a carrier bearing fail but I did have transmission issues that sounded just like that. I would definetly start with a carrier bearing. My friends car made this notice only louder and would come and go but he traded the car before finding out what caused it.

If the wheels are tuning the driveshaft is turning. The engine is no longer powering the wheels when in nuetral but everything is still spinning. Bearings can and will make this sound.

Learn how the drivetrain works.

These cars are not like a Vette.

Noob mistake on my part, i guess it's time for an upgraded carrier bearing to see if it solves it

Could be throw out bearing. Try clutching in see if the whine goes away. If it has no effect on the sound then carrier bearing is the next culprit

Before you go throwing (expensive) parts at it, spray the carrier bearing with some white lithium grease to see if the noise stops.

Spraying with grease never did help my howling carrier bearing.. Many of the driveshafts we get in, have all kinds of spray greases and other crap built up all over the carrier lol. Works for some guys and not for others. Its all about getting behind the rubber seals and into the bearing, but trying to remove crusty old seals and relubing an internally rusted bearing... while the bearing is on the shaft... almost impossible with the shrouding around it on the V carrier.

FYI: the video sounds identical to my original carrier that was howling.
