Default Burning smell after driving

After driving short or long distance when I exit vehicle it smells like something burning. Not driving the vehicle hard just normal everyday driving. Can't smell it in the cabin when driving, only once I park and get out do I smell it. Any thoughts on what it might be? Just randomly started occurring the past few times I have driven it.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Welllllllllll, the first and only time i smelled a burning smell was my alternator. Check your voltage on infotainment center. If it's not stable and jumping up and down constantly, that could be it. Look at alternator and stick your nose there and smell and see if there is a shitload of black scuzz on it.

My power steering reservoir just puked fluid and I was also getting a burning smell. I suspect you're not driving in -7 F temps though.

"Something burning?" What's it smell like?

Electrical, oil/fluid, antifreeze, fabric, exhaust, clutch, brakes, rear tires ...?

Leaning more towards electrical smell. Maybe exhaust. Only thing that has changed is a adapter for my phone, that's when it started smelling now that I think about it. Have aux and 30pin hooked up for my phone. Bought a 30 pin to lightning adapter for my phone and just started using it. Is it possible that would cause something to burn up?

whew... if it started after hooking up your phone cord.. I'd retrace everything you changed/added for that cord and make sure youre not gonna burn to the ground. ALSO... go buy a fire extinguisher!! keep it in the car.

Yea but it didn't start after installation. I have had hooked up for months but have a 5s so bought a 30 pin to lightning adapter so I can charge and play music not off the aux. Before this I ran my iphone 4 off of it with no issues... I'm just shooting this as a possibility to the smell. I am going to throw it on a lift tomorrow and make sure nothing is caught on my exhaust (plastic bag or something like that).

I can smell my clutch if I gun it a few times on the last couple of streets before I get home. Sucker gets warm quick.

Well good luck, got to put the nose to work. It's funny though how wives or girlfriends say we never notice anything like a new pair of shoes, a new flower vase or bathroom aroma scents, but god forbid the slightest vibe, smell or sound comes from our cars..OH the anxiety lol

I seriously thought it might be a torn center cv boot on the driveshaft as that grease is a funny burning smell when it hits the exhaust.. but then you said electrical.. so keep an eye out on that driveshaft for grease spray onto the exhaust. if so.. contact me and we can resolve that issue for you.

Heftone- Ive been getting hot coolant smell in the car ever since I had the system flushed. previously had new radiator also. doesnt come through the vents but always strong smell.. took it in cause I couldnt find a leak and neither could they.. at a loss.. but I know it sure pisses me off everytime I smell it...

I freak out driving on the highway from the smells of other cars. Usually you end up seeing some old box truck, van, or construction vehicle and then can exhale. I usually flip through my DIC on the left gauge cluster just to be sure.

Interesting suggestion. Look for orange/brown stains on your oilpan. I never smelled it, but definitely saw it.

Hell yeah it does. After a blown head gasket and warped heads in my old car and now a small leak in this car, I never want to smell coolant again.

So it's not the adapter that I added. What does it smell like when fuel pump is melting... Melting plastic?

It eventually smells like fuel, so you'll know sooner than later if it's that, hah.
