Default Cam ideas needed!

So I just bought another 2005 CTS-V with 80K on it and I have purchased a few parts for it.

Kooks Headers
High flow Cats
K&N Intake

Now I want to buy a Cam kit. What is the general kit out there for getting a good power gain and still driving it daily? Should I replace the lifters and all or just a cam job. I also plan on having a custom tune done at the same time.

Any ideas would be great
Thanks

First idea

2nd idea: to change lifters means remove the heads.

3rd idea: Call a knows cam builder (i.e. Brian tooley) and ask them.

4th idea: All of this is relative to the driver and their abilities/tolerances. You can drive monster cams on the street if you have the patience and don't drive in traffic.

Plenty of info on this site, id run something like a 228/232 or 227/234 ground on EPS lobes through EPS or Pat G. I would also recommend Martin at Tick or Briant Tooley. Tons of repuatable guys on here that can help with a phone call.

DD car i would run LPE GT11 cam. Change your springs and pushrods and enjoy a slightly larger cam than a LS7.

215 vs 211 / 231 vs 230 and a LSa of 118 vs 120.

I am in the process of swapping out the LS7 cam with 1.85 rockers i have in my 6.6ltr stroker and installin a GT11 with 2 degrees of cam retard and upgraded 1.7 stock rockers. This way i get a little more kit up top and still have good power down low...

Um.....wow. "the proper setup" what is that exactly? The OP has stock cubic inch motor. We are not all running 427+ CI here @ 12:1 compression. With all due, that is a rather small cam you suggested. I'm sure it will work (obviously), but my grandmother could DD a cam bigger than that with ease.

Apples to Apples here. Not max effort vs purpose built.

You will need the following,

Properly ported LS3 heads with light weight Valves,
Ported 90-102mmTB
Ported FAST 102mm intake
1 7/8 headers with proper exhaust
TR6 plugs and NOT MSD wire set
COMP CAM rocker upgrade
7.400" pushords
LS7 lifters
Cloyes 9 keyway timing sprocket
5w50 oil
4" MAF and intake tube

That will get you the 500 with the GT11 cam. The truck intake are restrictive but give more bottom end vs the fast intakes. And I have seen it work on a 6.0 GTO with a manual gearbox and even with stock bottom end. You want more then you have to upgrade the bottom end and bump up the CR.

Apples to apples...

Op has an 05 LS6 5.7L So starting off the ls3 heads will not work on a 3.9" bore. So I don't even need to remind anyone that no one in a V (LS6) max effort has broken 460 let alone 500. Oranges my friend.

He could get the mini LS3 heads. But they use the same size valves as 243s so I'm not sure what actual gains one can from them, at least NA.

BTR stage 2 cam - 227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2
LS7 lifters
trunion upgrade on stock rockers (you will need a $50 press and do them yourself)
LS2 timing chain
LS6 oil pump (aftermarket is not necessary unless you have external oil cooler)
Replace associated gaskets/seals e.g. water pump, front cover etc

Leave the rest of the stuff alone unless you want to empty your wallet on nonsense. Going any further then you're looking at HCI and about 4x the cost of a cam kit. Your options really start to grow. Tuning should be a piece of cake, 2hrs tops since the only real change is the cam.

Good Luck!

Just messing around. Seems to be too much of that non-sense around here.

Anyways tick has their stage 1 sns cams which seem similar to the BTR stg 2. The tick has a bit more overlap tho and will be more lopey. Seemed like the perfect combo for drive ability and power to me.

227/231 .630/.600 111+2

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the kind of combos that Tick has. Another cam I like the specs on is the Vengeance VXR5. I've considered swapping to that if there was ever a problem with mine.
