Default Question bout reinstalling my motor from top 2005 V

How many people have put the motor and tranny as one piece back in car thru top? When took out I removed heads and pulled as just short block. This time I've removed good and have whole car 1ft in air. Would like to be able to instal the heads on engine and attach tranny then stick back in, just not sure if anyone has experienced clearance issue with heads on? Thanks input can't wait to get it back together 2005 Ls6 CTSV

From what I have heard, no way you are getting it back in with the trans attached.

Get the car as high as you can off the ground a foot probably won't cut it. It's a tight wiggle to get it in, you'll have to do some finessing. Your picker will need an angle adjustment .

I've done it. As I recall, it helped having a leveler like this one (http://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-qua...ler-67441.html). I also think I removed the panels covering the windshield wiper motors to give me like 1/2" more room. The biggest problem was that my crane was a tiny bit too short at its 1000lb setting to get it all the way back and, at the 500lb setting, the crane wouldn't lift the engine/trans up high enough. I ended up removing the front bumper and support to give me a bit more room.

Impressive. I've talked with other people who always remove the trans first.

yeah, I took the trans off before pulling the engine but put it back in bolted to the engine. I decided I didn't want to try getting the trans to seat on the engine from under the car again.

So it sounds like most people who have a 1000 lbs. hoist probably don't attempt it, but if you had a beefier one, then it's probably doable without removing the bumper/support.

Same.
I never removed anything from the washer motors, or the bumper support.
