Default Keyless entry (keyfob) issue on my 2005 V

I tried searching for this but no luck so far. My lock/unlock buttons will not work (except for very rare occasions). The trunk button works perfectly every time. I replaced the battery and still no luck. I only have one fob. If I can't figure it out I guess I will have to go with an aftermarket system (which I don't want to do).

Car is an '05 V

Silicone button overlay contact pads are likely worn out. Buy a replacement online, crack it open, cannibalize the button overlay, and install it in your fob. I deal with this on a daily basis at work with alarm keypads, cordless phones, and remote controls.

Solid advice. I may try this since mine seems lazy the last year or so.

Edit- I just swapped out the pad from my #2 remote that I've never used. It works great.

Nice tip!

What kind if range do you guys have? I have to be within 20ft of the car for either one of my fobs to work in most cases.

Also you could buy a V2 key fob and make it work..looks much better when completed.

Pretty much the same. Further on a fresh battery but not for very long.

I have also made them work by cutting a small circle (think gasket punch) of aluminum foil tape (like for HVAC ductwork) and sticking it to the back of the buttons. Of course now that you can buy a replacement case/keypad for under $5 bucks shipped that is a far better longterm solution. But if you need to get by for a few days even tinfoil and superglue will work.
