Default 2006 CTSV Clutch area Noise

Hey all, Had a quick question maybe you guys can help me with..

A little backround.. 2006 CTSV All stock, 110,000 Miles. stock clutch as far as I know, I bought the car with 99k on it.

The problem I am having is there is a weird clunking sound in the clutch area of the car at idle.. the weird thing is the car only makes this clunking sound when the clutch is fully pushed in or fully out. If I push the clutch in half way the clunking sound goes away. I am not quite sure what would cause this?

Now the 2nd problem is... I am currently stationed in Germany so pulling the Tranny ect out will be a huge pain in the *** and I don't trust auto mechanics very much...even more so in Germany. I am hoping that this could be something else making this sound and its just resonating to the tranny area but I am sure I am just wishing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

A video would help a lot. Normally the throwout bearing is what makes noise if it fails, but only when the clutch isn't depressed. At this point, though, need more details to properly diagnose.

Uploading a video on youtube now, German internet is far from good though so may take a bit.

Ok, Heres the video! You can hear the clunking come and go depending on where I put the clutch pedal.

Wow, ok...that's definitely clutch related...maybe it is the throwout bearing. Maybe someone else has a better idea, but in my mind, the transmission probably has to come out.

It's been like this for probably the last 5k miles, hasn't gotten any worse. I just am at a loss to what changes with the clutch half in and full in that would cause the noise.

Sorry OP, that trans has to come out. A failed bearing will make a mess of your transmission if you keep putting it off.

I was afraid of this . Any one have any idea on the time it takes a shop to do a clutch swap? Just so I can have somewhat of an idea what to be charged by a German. I would do this myself but the good old military "lost" all my tools during my move.

But you filed a claim for the tools, right?

I think it's a 6-8 hour job for a shop, so it's not going to be cheap. Sorry bud.

Its a long story but they lost a ton of my stuff and I didn't get enough back to replace it all. I did get some $ back though. I think they charge about 80 euro an hour here so yeh, going to be pretty expensive.

Six to eight hours seems high.

I had a UUC FW installed a few years back (before I went with the LS9 kit), and I had the guy do the TO bearing at the same just because he was in there. Don't think it was quite six hours.

U need 2 tall jack stands and 6hrs is doable. That what it took me the first time I dropped the trans. Second time it 4hrs.

Just don't like to underestimate things and then people come back and say "that took way longer than you said!" haha
