Hi. Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself... I'm looking at a V1 CTSV with pretty high mileage. Thanks for all the great information. I'm sure there'll be questions and I'll be sure to search first.

The car I'm looking at is an 04 with 190k miles on it. It will be a daily driver except in the winter, but I can work on it when it needs it. With that kind of mileage, should I be making plans to rebuild in the not-too distant future? What's the most common mode of failure? Broken valve springs?

eh the LS motors can last a long time. valve train parts certainly could use a freshening at that mileage. i know for a fact my 185k mile z28 i sold 2 years ago is still running like a champ and getting a 125 shot thrown at it and its never had the valve covers off it. i would say making sure the V your looking at has a good service record and was cared for properly is a good start to letting you know what to expect. but with that many miles i would make sure i got a great deal on it.

Would $7500 qualify as a good deal? It's over blue book but less than any other V's I find for sale.

You'll love it but it will probably need a little love but $7500 seems pretty fair if it still looks good. I went through mine pretty heavily at around 180k but a lot of what I did was preventive maintenance instead of repairs.

Lots of good info here...enjoy your car!

Several guys around with >200k on theirs and still running strong.

Another member here just got a V2 and hasn't gotten around to putting his '06 Platinum up for sale. Has like 140k-ish miles for a bit over the $7.5k you're looking at. PM me, and I'll connect you up with him if you want.
