Weak/not working trunk release DIY repair
I've got an 04 with 97k miles. I'm not sure this is big problem since I can't really find any info on it, but with our cars getting older I'm sure somebody can use this info in the future.
My trunk release was very weak. 90% of the time it wouldn't even open the trunk so I just had to use the manual release. I troubleshot it down to the actual latch so I wasn't wasting my time chasing ghosts. I even checked the relay under the back seat to make sure it was good.
I pulled the motor apart and tried cleaning it but nothing worked so I bought a couple cheap motors to experiment with.
This is the motor for the release
And this is one of the motors I bought and it turned out its the only one I needed. It cost s whole $1.25 and $8 to ship it.

All I did was remove the plastic brush section and move it over to my old motor and now it works perfect ans releases every time.
I also have another theory that might work but I wasn't going to spend the money unless the other idea didn't work. I was looking and looking for a full replacement motor. I couldn't find one and that's when I just decided to mod my motor. Well after I bought parts already, I stumbled across a door lock motor for a Kia Sadona and low and behold it looks identical to our trunk lock motor. The one pictured is $15 but I found one for 13 too. OEM Kia part with a 10 year warranty.
The replacment is pretty straight forward. The latch is removed with 2 10mm bolts and the lock mechanism is held on with 4 Phillips screws. Once that's off you can see the motor and replacment from there is pretty self explanatory.
Sorry I didn't really take any pics but the inside of the latch was greasy and I didn't want to get my phone dirty.

We got started without you.
I recently bought another V so I currently have 2 and the newest one has an awesome remote. That's convinced me that there might be hope for my other car as the key fob is almost useless in it.
