So i hate the look of the stock intake... but I'm a firm believer that it does an excellent job at efficiently drawing cool air. Aftermarket intakes appear to cost 2-400$ and from what I've seeen there is really no guarantee of any hp gains. I'm sure some may even loose HP and draw in more hot air!!! Plus forget those oiled filters - I don't want to clean my MAF all the time and gum it up.
I ordered the same parts this guy did and this looks promising. The new piping is very thick, so i would think it's less susceptible to heat soak or higher intake temps. The other thing is has going is that it's not squished like the stock intake tube. The inside of the aftermarket tube feels more "slick" and I would think it will promote better airflow.
I know all the ridges and odd things inside the stock intake probably serve a purpose (noise canceling and airflow straightening maybe?)But im wondering if this solution will net a few more HP. Not sure if this will affect the MAF readings either. I will be testing both stock intake tubes and this aftermarket / custom setup on the dyno in the coming weeks to see if there is any difference. Worst case I wasted 100$ for a better looking intake I'm not expecting many gains at all. Maybe 1-3HP.

But as a subject that's been approached here before, the stock airbox is fine it itself, but the tube could be improved. Since the MAF is at the front of the tube, it really doesn't have an impact in MAF readings. A simple 4" tube seems to be the most practical upgrade to the intake itself. Trimming off the front portion of the scoop behind the mesh grill will also let more fresh air in the box. Filter choice is then up to the user.
I don't have a problem with K&N style filters and have had good luck with them. I just finished off my first K&N recharger kit after 10 years.

Yeah, what your talking about is what i've been hearing. I just haven't actually seen any dyno gains or really any form of testing with swapping out the intake tube. I couldn't even find anyone do a before / after dyno with an aftermarket CAI to see if there was even a legitimate power increase!!!
No doubt the K&N looks sharp, im just very skeptical it will net any additonal HP on the dyno
wow 9hp? I wouldn't have expected that. Wish we could have seen where the gains were in the power band. I wonder if that's what i'll see with this tube. It's similar to the "FFV" only less parts.
Yeah I'm doing a fast 102 + ported TB + this tube. I'm going to do a full re tune. I'll swap both intake tubes on the dyno and see if this one net's around 9HP...
FWIW, know of a stock V2 owner who reported that replacing the factory stock air intake with a KPE unit( intake tube & filter ) produced a gain of 8 rwhp using the same dyno in a before and after comparison.
That 9-10 RWHP estimate was about spot on. Best ~120$ i spent. This here are some pics of the final intake tube i created.
426 is all my setup would do with the stock intake tube. Right after swapping it we went immediately to 432 with no changes. Some massaging got me to 437. Later pics are of stock vac setup.
Awsome! I cant believe it was 5 years ago I built that intake. Glad the style worked out and made some power. I never did dyno the car after putting it on. I'm in the process of building another one.

Cant really tell oh the pics since im on my phone but the tube has a vacume line running out of it right
There might be another reason, why to gain so much hp with a cai like how old or dirty was your old oem air filter before?!
I've heard about gains around 20hp by changing the old to a new one, all seen on a dyno by replacing directly after another, might be a point where you have to think about, is it truly the cai which makes more power or to change to a new/clean air filter?!
