Blown FG2 Shock, replacement?

What is it we are replacing these with? I just want the FG2 replacement, and everyone just comes up with the FE4s, and when I search parts sites like Rock Auto it just has the FE4 replacement. Is there anywhere that sells the FG2 replacements?

jmilz28 05-01-2017 06:15 AM

They don't make them anymore. You'll have to luck out and find some on a dusty dealer parts shelf or get even luckier and find an individual selling some.

barrok69 05-01-2017 11:10 AM

They are long discontinued.

I have a used set for sale in the classifieds https://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-...ling-arms.html

Nicco 05-05-2017 01:42 AM

Well that is a bummer. What can I get that is comparable? I would rather buy two new shocks for the rear instead of throwing on used shocks to be honest. I want similar performance to what I got with the FG2.

Choppy_Idle 05-05-2017 03:13 AM

Take a look to DiscountAutoParts in Keyport, NJ, they listed all available shocks for a V1, but idk, if they we're in Stock, pls report back here about the results!

The oem is the only "v" related one out there. Sachs makes the oem(they came up with the nivomat) it's coil overs after that for anything performances based. There is a few podunk company's that make base model type shocks but nothing for us

jmilz28 05-05-2017 06:25 AM

Gads I wish Bilstein or Koni would make a replacement for us. You'd think with the base CTS cars, there would be enough market to justify it...

BudRacing 05-05-2017 09:19 AM

Considering how much the rear OEM shocks are ($250/each), this doesn't look like such a bad deal.

It looks like they're McPherson style though... so not exactly sure how they bolt up unless that's just a stock photo and the actual product has mounting tabs for the LCA.

Nobody tried something similar from other cars to use with adapters?

Oh man...some adapters that could make some Konis or Bilsteins viable would get my money. Just doubt there are enough of us to make this viable...would have to be someone with engineering and machine skills and resources and love of this platform. How similar are our shocks to V2s?

jmilz28 05-08-2017 12:12 PM

Nevermind, V2 shocks are hard to come by also, it would seem.

I'll bet adapters or custom shocks would be do-able, just so much work in getting the correct dimensions and then the damping you wanted from them.

Nicco 05-09-2017 01:09 AM

What is the deal with the FE1? Is that a non V shock? I would like to actually get some coilovers, instead of spending $500 on FE4s. I am not ready yet though, so can two FE1 shocks in the back suffice? I need to get something, the shock is completely empty.

Choppy_Idle 05-09-2017 04:01 AM

Don't do that man, i had FE3 sports on my rear a few Days, but the difference was extremely bad, must throw them out, don't try something less then FE4 or FG2 on your car or go to similar aftermarket!

I'm a bit surprised you were that dissatisfied with the rear shocks, especially considering they're the "sport" replacements. I considered them when I saw the FE4 rear shocks were such a ripoff.

What is your definition of extremely bad? Right now I hear a loud clunk over any small bump. I need to put something on like yesterday. I don't want to fork out $500 for FE4s, they seem like a rip off, I am not ready for coilovers either. I don't mind a little sacrifice in performance, as long as the ride quality is fixed and I won't be compromising that corner anymore.

Choppy_Idle 05-09-2017 12:08 PM

Smooth like Pudding, Front shocks you will feel bumpiness on street, rear nothing, in my case it worked none with the FG2 in front, undriveable...

Unsure it was the FE3 Sport, maybe it was FE1 or 2, sorry...

My guess is that you had the softest shock if that was your result. The sports should be comparable to the V's but without the nivomat--but that is pure speculation.

vroom_vroom 05-09-2017 01:22 PM

Amazon as them for 188.

jmilz28 05-09-2017 01:39 PM

I think if similar sizes, lengths, and types (or adapters) could be found, it would just be a matter of damping. Seem to be plenty of physical possbilities, but getting the damping right would be the time-eater. http://cart.bilsteinus.com/pdfs/motorsports.pdf

I am just daily driving at the moment. I guess I will be the guinea pig. It is $170 for two FE1s, and $500 for two FE4s. I will get the FE1s, and let you all know how terrible it is.
