Default Threw in an Android deck in my V....I like it!

One of my biggest gripes of this car is the nav system.I thought these cars had some form of an aux atleast..I knew there wasnt bluetooth but I needed to ditch the factory unit before I got the car lol.

Ive built a in-car pc head unit for my Transam many moons ago to mimick what is out there today.I dug into the Android decks now that they have been vastly improved..and inexpensive. The problem is..there are billions of em out there.Picking a unit is not easy.So I was going to spend more money on a unit for $400 that has newer android software and a better touch screen but I went with what I thought was a 2nd best(half price) Atoto to get my feet wet with the project.

So to cut things short, this is just like installing any other aftermarket deck into a car.You need to buy the dash kit, antenna adapter and bypass the factory amp in the trunk and hook up a fused accessory under the dash.

I was nervous I admitt it woulnt even work when i go to turn the unit it.The instructions are broken english chinese for setting things up.But once i played with everything i figured out how to navigate through the deck.It has a much better am/fm receiver i noticed from the start.i get stations I would have mostly static on the stock radio now come in clear. The unit is powering the speakers fairly well but I dont have the subwoofer hooked up.I may add one later to reconnect the factory woofer. The eq is a basic treble mid and bass control...meh.Screen quality..at night is great, during direct sunlight..not so hot but visible.I expected that.

Bluetooth handsfree..the provided mic and builtin mic make for clear calls and 0 echo.

Now the big feature is apps. Its endless what you can download to the unit and use just like your phone or tablet. It has wifi builtin and it receives signal pretty good from my driveway to my home network and i performed some updates for the core apps.I put games on there..email etc.You can use your google account or others to do whatever you please.

This unit being a older version of android doesnt allow the use of android auto like new cars today offer. This deck uses an app called easyconnected.Which you plug your phone in to usb and it mirror images the phone on the screen. This is what Ive learned to primarily use daily because my phone already has every app on it..no need to put them all on the deck itself.I then can just use the phone as i drive normally.*Warning* this is technically illegal lol..meh.I use google maps from my phone and the torque pro app and S voice to command everything with ease. The only thing i cant comment on yet it longevity.I had some questions and did email Atoto..though they did email me back within an hr..the broken english/chinese translation isnt going to help you much so literally just play with the unit for a few hrs to figure it out.

Heres my initial video after i installed it and tried it out very late at night.Part 2 ill have up soon of some daytime shots and things i discovered after a week of use.

Does it have an app that would allow it to function as the DIC?

No it doesnt for dic.The torque pro app does show you alot of the ecu sensors like iat, maf, map, all o2 sensors, tps, injectors. It will let you view and clear codes also.

I had to make sure I set everything on the stock radio/dic before I removed it.But its very easy to pop it in and change a setting or 2 and then put back in the aftermarket unit.its only 4 bolts.

but i think I spent under $400 with the parts and have way more capability than the factory nav deck offers and I dont miss the dic at all.how often do you really need to see the dic info anyway?

Looks good! I really wish GM wouldn't have put the DIC with the NAV system. I find the DIC info useful.

I dont see the big deal about the dic but then again..I just got the car lol.Anything i wanted to see on the dic i can see with the obd2 torque app.the only things that im fine tuning is the distance to empty and avg fuel is based on calculations in the torque app and not from the engine ecu.Theres way more abilities with the torque app..I did a full scan for pending codes and found 2 codes for the o2 sensors..thats when I found out it was runing lean.very handy app..Ive been preaching it for anyone to buy a $20 elm 327 and the pro version of the app ..try it on your phone on any car!

I'm with you on that...I don't need a car to tell me its cold, dark or to put my seatbelt on...that's what girlfriends are for.

I have an older pioneer 890 and the improvement in sound quality coupled with the Garmon Nav, bluetooth and USB make it a huge win over the factory setup. I've survived with the DIC for many years and even though I've never owned a vehicle with all these little nit picky features, being able to turn off the traction control without having to pull a fuse would be convenient.

It looks like the only way to have my cake and eat it to is to incorporate a factory CTS DIC unit into the system. If I don't go V3 at some point, I may mess with it....

If I want to have fun..I just hold the tc button down for about 8 seconds and i know sc and tc are off.I dont need the screen to confirm it for me.

I don't think you can actually get into COMP mode without acknowledging it on the DIC...if someone could verify this it would be helpful.

I was concerned about that and from what i can tell..seems to not matter if the dic is there.

Before i removed the stock radio I would purposely press and hold the tc button for about 8-10 seconds and the dic would say sc off,but I wouldnt press ok on the radio and just continue driving.I would try to drive super aggressive around turns..burnouts and even a doughnut or 2 and the safety nannies didnt hold me back.

It still acts the same way now even after removing the dic.I just had the car dyno tuned so its possible the tuner could have access to that for sure.

Anyway you could ask him?

This has been a much discussed topic over the years and with all the talk, I'm still not sure I know exactly how it's supposed to function. I use mine as an aggressive daily so I'm not tracking it or really pushing it that hard so I've never bothered to play with it.

Posts #29 and 30 both confirm this and it seems to be working for me as stated. You shouldnt need the dic to operate drive modes.Just need a proper working abs system.i had to fix my swps to get comp mode working again. The dic is just to display what mode you selected..the car will physically enter the mode if all systems are ok.

It really is...Im kinda wishing i went with the more expensive unit to start. But this one had the cleanest looking screen with little buttons so to me it wasnt to hard on the eyes. im uploading another video of the functionality right now.I really cant knock the unit..it will do everything you need and more aside from the dic lol

Can you post a link to the other units you researched? Android 6.0? Ive got a Blaupunkt head unit but im liking what you've done here. Ive replaced all the factory speakers and put in a aftermarket amp. I was going to do the Android head unit but some of them was so cheap, I figured it was for a reason.
