Question 2004-2005 Rearend question?

Are the rearends really that susceptible to breaking down? Are the replacements any better? What should I look/listen for? The car I'm about to purchase is CPO, till about May 2010, but I was just trying to do a little homework before I purchased. Thanks in advance for any replies/comments/suggestions.

From my own experience (two replaced), the differential will exhibit a whining sound especially beginning around 40 MPH, become more audible at ~45-50 MPH, and gradually fade at ~55 MPH and above during light acceleration.

Turn off the radio, put all windows up, shift into sixth gear on a quiet road with a good surface, and begin to accelerate. You can modulate your rate of acceleration to produce more or less of the sound.

Also, others have noticed (I have not) a grinding noise while turning in, say, a parking lot. A very few (< 5 maybe ?) have had catastrophic failures with pieces littered all over the road.

Don't do clutch dumps, and you'll be fine ... especially with a warranty and no mods to provide excuses for a dealer or other repair facility to deny coverage.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, that is the only thing that I worry about with this car. The Tranny is one of the best on the planet, and the engine well...spawing from a Vette enough is said about that. As stated, with the warranty I should be fine, and I don't plan on modding this thing too much. 400hps, will be enough (for the moment).

It sounds good though; and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
