Default Did you test drive your V before buying?

Did you test drive your V before buying it? A local Infinti deal has '13 coupe that I'm interested in buying. I stopped by, asked about the car, they asked to see my driver's license, made a copy, and then let me look at the car. When I asked for a test drive they said no test drives on specialty cars without a deal. I'm over 50, and drove my '05 V to the dealer. No way I'm going to negotiate on a mid $30,000 used car with over 50,000 miles without driving it, and there's no reason to give my ID if I'm not driving their car! What was your buying experience?

Tell them to get fucked or ask to speak to the general manager.

I called and did speak to him. He agreed that they shouldn't have copied my license, and stuck with their no driving of "specialty" vehicles policy. No wonder they've had the car for 2 months.

I believe there was a promotion in '09 or '10 where Cadillac offered me $50 to test drive a new one. I knew I wasn't going to buy a new one, so I didn't waste their time.

My wife wants me to get a brand new $50,000 Mustang GT. I hear they absolutely rip, but I love the way my V blends in with the crowd. I've driven my V like a nut for over 10 years without a ticket. Mustang is the poster child for speeding tickets around here.

I was required to show license, proof of insurance, leave the keys to my other vehicle and a credit check before a test drive, and an employee had to ride along ...

That's crazy. I just asked to drive it, and it was no issue at ALL. Hell, they were really enthusiastic about it.
I'd definitely let them know their policy is a complete turn-off and that you'll be looking elsewhere for your V.

My first V2 was at a Hendrick dealership in Concord, NC right behind the race shop. The car was part of the "Hendrick private collection", whatever the f*** that means. They were hesitant to let me test drive it because, in their words "we typically don't let people test drive cars that come from the Hendrick collection due to insurance" blah blah blah. Basically you had to take their word that the car is what it is and that there were no issues with it. They made an exception for me because I had bought a truck from them the year before. I'm glad I test drove it too, because it had a CEL the whole time I drove it! But had they not let me test drive the car, I would have walked out then and there and not looked back. There's no way in hell I'd buy a used car without thoroughly looking it over and taking it for a test drive to make sure everything was in working order.

If I were you, I'd move on. If they aren't willing to let you test drive the car, you can bet they aren't willing to come off their likely inflated asking price either. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.

They are just trying to bind you to signing paperwork and lock yourself into the deal.

tell them to pound sand if you cant test drive the car.

I test drove one here and the guy was surprised I didn't hammer on it. I felt the power and didn't need to blow the tires off it. didn't work a deal on it and bought one across country that I just saw pics of. love it.

It was dumb but, I'm glad it didn't work out. I ended up with a pretty loaded '16 6M ATS-V sedan for a lot less than that CTS-V. The ATS-V is a fun, fast, great handling car that'll respond great to mods but will sound like crap if it gets too loud. I ran it down the 1/4. It ran 12.68@115, 2.18 60' on worn all season tires. I'm hoping to go high 11's stock on a drag radial. Sound possible?

Glad you where about to find something else. I didnt even know they made an ATS V. I'm not familiar with them at all. I've only owned f bodies. Anything is possible with the right build and tune.

It's a Camaro chassis with a twin turbo 464 hp 3.6 V6 with titanium connecting rods, 6 piston Brembos, Tr6060 trans, Twin disc clutch, Recarro seats, Magna-ride... The 6M cars are pretty rare. Only 251 6M '16 sedans were produced. $67,000 sticker on my car. Probably why they didn't sell that many.
